I'm not expecting high value. I've been reading on here and educating myself, other than the teeth test(which they all passed) I didn't know much more about pearls. I actually bought these at a thrift store and wondering what you could tell me about them. I'm going to be sending some to my mom for a late Mother's day gift.

You have all freshwater pearls there. What a versatile and attractive collection- are they all for your mom? Lucky gal!!!

They aren't worth a lot for resale, or on eBay, maybe $80-100 for the collection, but you made a terrific buy! They probably cost from $30-$65 each when sold retail the first time. They would appraise higher than they would sell for. I gave you approximate sale prices.

I really like the white necklace with larger pearls in the smaller strand. I'm sure your mom will love it. :)

Not a bad find from a thrift store IMHO, and I too like the strand with big and small pearls.

DK :)

Thank you all so much. I think I paid about $35 for the lot. The white stand with a few larger pieces was in a grab bag of jewlery, it is missing all but one piece of a clasp. The little piece says 10 k, so I'm assuming whoever told the other gold off before turning it in to goodwill. So Ill need that one fixed before sending to her. But for now, I'm sending the necklace with the semiprecious stones, the pink one and the white pearl bracelet.

My mother is very fair so I'm not sure the silvery black ones would look so well. I'm actually wondering if the light pink might be too light colored and fade into her skin tone.

Yes, that is silver between on the bracelet.I'm thinking of actually keeping this one for myself,

I have two more questions for you, if you'd please. 1) Will silver cleaner damage or discolor the pearls? 2) I saw in some posts ppl asking if there were knots between the pearls, what is the significance of them? Thanks in advance

Good questions, Vulcanmccoy,

Yes, that is exactly the same bracelet as mine! Very nice quality lustrous button pearls. Each half drilled pearl is glued on a peg soldered to the middle of that narrow bar across the middle, a labor intensive job. I don't recall exactly what the original cost was, but over $50.

Silver cleaner, the dip kind, isn't good for pearls and likely would say so on the package. A dry flannel jewelry polishing cloth could be used very carefully to shine up the high spots, but many of us don't mind when the silver oxidizes. If you use something like the dry flannel cloth, when finished I'd then rinse under running water or wipe with a clean damp cloth and carefully dry the bracelet to make sure any residue was not left on the pearls. Don't immerse in the water, though.

The other bracelets appear to have no clasp and be on stretch elastic.

Cultured freshwater pearls are much less expensive generally, so designers tend to take more license with them, such as string on thread or wire or elastic with no knots. The usual traditional way is knotting between each bead, which prevents loss should the string or wire break, keeps the pearls from abrading each other and wearing away nacre and gives great flexibility to the design, allowing the piece to flow and lay nicely on the neck or wrist.

Fantastic thrift store find, congratulations!
