I have a pearl strand which is very old.I am sending the picture of the same in the attachment.Please let me know what type of pearls are they.

They actually look like Chinese freshwaters from the past decade or so, many of which are currently being sold.

What do you mean when you say the pearls are very old? Did you just buy the pearls and were told they were very old? Where were the pearls purchased? Have you had these pearls for many years? Please tell us more about the history.

PD and Amrita, I certainly agree they don't look old, and an ordinary yarn tassel like that makes me wonder too. We need to get more of the story. My concern is that this is another case of misrepresentation.

The OP needs to read the sticky at the top of this forum and provide the information requested. So far there simply isn't enough, but I do agree that these look like pretty poor quality Chinese freshwaters dressed up with a fancy tassel to make them look like something special.

We need some more information about how you came to have these pearls. It sounds from what you have said as if someone has sold them to you and told you they are very old. At present, and from what you have written and your photo, we don't think that person was telling you the truth. To be sure about that we need more information about the pearls if you can give it

They are real cultured pearls, as far as I can tell from the photo. If someone is trying to tell you that they are natural, and not cultured, that is highly unlikely.
