Hmmmm...60 yrs of good behavior...I think she's EARNED a Ripples bracelet for sure (so SHE can enjoy the gorgeous visuals)! She's not with your dad 24/7 right?
I too have really enjoyed this thread. And BAS, I continue to be filled with lust for your amazing giant fireball -photos don't begin to show the gloriousness of that beast!!!
So I went home this past weekend to visit my parents and take a (final) college tour with my DD.
My father didn't acknowledge this piece I was wearing:
The next day I showed him my WSS strand:
He said the pearls were "magnificent", though he preferred smaller white round pearls (which is exactly what I suspected he'd say). It was unclear to me whether he means CFW or akoya. They gave me CFW pearls from HK around 40 years ago. They are my first ever pearls and the pearls I wore to my wedding. Here is a shot of my first white round pearls with my most recent white round pearls:
And finally, a photo, with everyone's permission, of me (you can see a glimpse of the WSS) with my dear mother, father and sweet daughter:
I'll leave you with this tidbit. My daughter isn't into pearls and doesn't ever want to try mine on or borrow anything. I suspect this will change over time...
Thank you for the pearl preference up-date - great photo of your first and most recent pearls and just loved the family photo too.
Your daughter would look stunning in pearls!! One day...
Thanks for updating us on your recent visit and for the wonderful family photo! In regards to your daughter, I wasn't into jewelry very much at her age but I would guard your pearly treasures as she gets older lol!
This is a great thread. It is a wonderful, personal story with fantastic characters who are so classic in their reactions. It brings something special to this thread to write about your family reactions to the pearl collection. Thanks for making this one of my all time favorite threads!
Is there another story here, about your wedding pearls? You must have been a toddler when they were purchased and bonded with beautiful pearls then! Round freshwater pearls would have been extremely rare 40 years ago.
pattye -- I'd been wondering about them, too! I had assumed they were freshwater from HK -- but now I think they must be small akoya! I'll double check with my mother, but I am pretty sure they were bought in HK 40ish years ago. They aren't graduated. Here are a few shots -- they've never been restrung (or cleaned). I haven't worn them forever because they are too small for my taste now. The clasp says 14K 585:
And now you've got me walking down memory lane. Alex and I have been together for 32 years, and we were married in 1991. I just took out our wedding album and here are a couple of wedding pictures with the pearls:
