Opinions on Pearl (is this real)

Good to see a fellow Dutchie on a forum !

The more or less final update is that all four lots were pulled 2 hours before the auction (so we correctly guessed that they belonged together). Remember these lots were 'owned' by the Dutch Ministry of Finance and taxation so they can pretty much do as they please here

My contact at the auction says the reason for pulling them was 'unclear' and its also 'unclear' if they are going to be offered again.

Before pulling the conch brooch stood at 5.200,= with one bidder (despite being bid on the conch was also pulled) and the melo stood at 11.000,= with no bidders. I personally was going to get the melo or the art nouveau peice with the Plique a jour wings for my wife (if it went sub 3.500,=, it was near the 5.000 mark).

Reasons is anybodys guess but there could be disputes over ownership (ie the items did not belong to the tax debter but to his girlfriend) or the person paid his/her taks debt, other posibilities include the fact that the items might have belonged to a dead person and now some long lost relative was found.

Anyway thanks for the help an taking a look pearl forum !

I agree, Iggy. I am sorry you didn't get a chance to win after all, but you provided us with a magnificent series of rare and beautiful items we rarely get to see. I had a lot of fun poring over them, too for they were far more than just the pearls, the workmanship was exquisite too. I think I learned a bit more about these rare pearls and so will people who look up this thread in the future.

I hope you come back with more pearls of any kind on the future!!!
