Opinion: 24G v 26G for Wire Wrapped Pearl Necklace

Oh, Beatriz, why do you live all the way over there in Brazil LOL? I'm sure it's a lovely place to live, but ... I'd really love to come watch over your shoulder ... and see electrum, not to mention that 18K Champagne Gold alloy! Pyromania in my younger days involved Raku firing clay ... lots of smoke, oxides, clays and chemicals ... so fun!
 
A word to the wise, Andrea ... sometimes you have to try more than one CS agent, to get someone willing to go ask the Product department about a special order. They actually encourage special order requests, although can't always comply of course ... but some CS agents will just check the catalog listings and say "No" without going to Product department.

Andrea, those pearls are so delicate, I think 26g would be balanced. Will be interesting to see the comparison shots.
 
I'm a bit reptilian brained this morning after a long night at work, but I am loving all the great contributions on this thread, so abundantly helpful!

Beatriz, I am SO impressed with your own alloys, they are all so beautiful! I would love to learn how to do all that some day. Or even just have the space to do that stuff in ;) I've got a flex shaft and torch just sitting in New Jersey...

Kat - I cost compared A&E metals 9kt white gold wire and found that it would actually be cheaper for me to get the same amount of white gold wire in 14kt at Riogrande.
 
MSC question for you as a former Jersey Girl (once a Jersey Girl, always a Jersey girl by the way...you never want to pump gas and you always find sand in between your toes)...I have been looking without much luck, for a great place to learn more advanced jewelry making techniques in NJ. I've checked our local community colleges and came up empty (although one did have a course in gemology, which seems to always get cancelled)...any thoughts on places in NJ to look to learn how to work with metals? I'd appreciate any advice!
 
Pattye, I love her style, back to the roots of metalwork for jewelry. It's been a wish of mine to do one of her weeklong courses, this thread just reminded me about that and I'm going to put it back on my list!
 
Oooh!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to go do that! If you click on the FAQ's page, there's the most simple, elegant and divine pearl "tin cup" necklace with a gold flower and leaf at the bottom ... can you just imagine that necklace ... with the kinds of pearls we ladies have access too??? Tahitian or Sea of Cortez keshi, or of course, pipi pearls for Andrea??? Wayne, NJ is a couple of hours away from me, but do-able. I'd even better like a week long class ... I could coax hubby into parking the vintage travel trailer over there somewhere, he could go fishing and I could too ... for gold LOL.
 
There's not a thing on Federicka Kuliche's website I wouldn't wear ... if I won the lottery, sigh ... such lovely things!
 
Cathy, you should contact Fredericka and let her know you'd be interested in a week intensive course. Maybe if enough people express interest she'll start offering them again!
 
I'd have to wait till after I came back from the Mediterranean ... and that's IF there's anything left of ME or my funds when I get back LOL. But I LOVE the idea, and the statements that they'll take ANYONE in the classes, even with no experience! Maybe you, me and JerseyPearl can make up a week long class sometime ... but I'm betting JP gets there long before that :)
 
Sounds like a fabrication ruckus. Just make sure some pearls end up in the jewelry! :)
 
Check out Penland and Haystack. They are craft schools (Penland is near Asheville, Haystack is in Maine) that offer week long and two week long courses, as well as the completely crazy 8 weeks intensive. They always have a fantastic line up of teachers and the experience is amazing. Remote areas, good food, interesting people and studio access 24 hrs/day.

I need to go back to Penland but I won't make it this year. If the economy improves, maybe next year.
