One Pearl Clasp..and at these prices!

So I'm about to start a gorgeous akoya double strand opera length necklace and all morning I've been perusing wholesale 14K clasps. Yikes on the prices!

Any advice on who has a good selection and decent prices? I can't believe I'm going to have to pay $50 + plus shipping for one clasp!

The customer preferred the flower-looking clasp with a pearl in the center. Nice choice but not as easy to find.

Suggestions much appreciated! Thanks!

A double strand of akoyas that long deserves a great clasp. $50 is not much when you think of it that way.

Pearlescence suggested vermeil, though a vermeil clasp can cost $50 too.

That's not a bad price for a gold clasp. Gold prices are so incredibly high that any clasp is going to cost. Try Bella Findings -- they have the flower clasp with a pearl in the center but I don't know if they have it as a double clasp. However, the clasp will be around $50. Kate

There was a "How to make your own clasp" thread not too long ago. Used gold wire for the project.
The sunflower is awfully pretty even for the price.

Fifty doesn't sound like too much for a double-strand clasp these days. Most are a bit more than that even at bulk wholesale these days. The price of gold has really been going up.

The alternative is to let the customer supply their own clasp....reality check?

I just did a knotting job for a client and had to supply a ball clasp, paid Aus $69.00 + gst (that was wholesale).

Well, actually the client is a very good friend who is doing my very complicated tax returns in exchange. So I want it to be really nice. I decided that the prices were just high and that was that....so after coming to grips, I was able to calm down and just shop for pretty.

Right now I'm considering a round filigree with a pearl from Bella or a flower with a pearl from Stuller....both in white gold and both around 58.

Well, I showed her the Stuller flower with the pearl and safety catch and also the Bella round filigree with pearl and she chose the round filigree.

However, I'm a little concerned as this is an opera length double strand. That's a lot of weight. She wants it strung as a long single so she can double, triple alter the lengths etc...so wouldn't a safety catch be important?

Which one are you talking about? I believe they all have safety catch.

I was wondering if it's a slide in tongue that clicks in place or a wrap around tongue. Hmmm...

In my experience this type of clasp is highly reliable - and the issue of a safety - doesnt really come up.

On the longer lengths - knots do become important - If the customer is going to be wearing it in different styles - wrapping\doubling up etc - I would recomend to fully knot.

Bernadette....what exactly do you mean by 'fully knotting'?

I had intended to knot on silk between each pearl with my tri-cord knotter to insure even tight knots.
