I haven't searched for candling within this site, but we do have a recent thread that provided a lot of examples of natural pearls and a couple of wannabee natural pearls. It is no gold standard of a test, but it is a very ancient one and may provide some information, just as the uv flashlight does.
I had to rate this thread because I am having so much fun- I just wish we could see it in person, but it is possible to tell a lot by photographs of the tests, most of the time. Bear with us before you invest in the cost of certification.
