These gorgeous pearls I consider my Lovelies. I suppose they must be Akoyas but they are so very large at 9 to 11 or more mms. I am unable to be subjective because I am in love with them. Love makes me blind to any faults they may have.

So please do help me out here. Tell me what you think of them. If they are Akoya and what you think they are worth.

Funny thing about them they have a 935 German Mark which I have always presummed was a higher than Sterling mark but because I haven't had my gold test long I decided to test them. On the pearl clasp side the tester says it is 9ct Gold. On the Male section of the clasp it says Not Gold - so Silver, which is what I actually thought. But I also checked a few other items for gold content and all were what could be expected. The Not Gold was what I expected from a friend's bracelet and some 18 ct marked showed 17 ct and some 14 ct over as in 17 ct.

So I am one very confused Pearl Lover. Not only do my Lovelies confuse me but they seem to be set in Gold on one side and silver on the other.

HELP :) Pleae.

Sorry the other photo didn't show up. Will try again. Love makes us Blind. I am blind with these pearls except for the fact that I love them.

Hi Dawn,

I can see why you love these pearls, they are sure pretty! Seems they are awfully large for akoya, from what I know, 11mm? The button shape pearl at the upper left of your photo looks more fw to me. Also the variation in color between the pearls. Photos of the less perfect pearls can tell us lots more than photos of the most perfect pearls! ;)

I don't have a metal tester, so I can't comment on your results there.

Bernadette,

I agree with you. Akoyas especially early ones do come in odd shapes. I am positive they are not freshwater.

Thanks pattye and pearlmaid. I will try to send in more photos of some imperfect ones.
