Hi All,

Thought I would start a new thread with my Lovelies as I call them. These are my absolute favourite Akoyas. Not my absolute favorite pearls as that place in my heart is for naturals only :) But I do love these and think they are special.

They are big at 10 to 11mm. Some pearls might be 10 x 9 mm. They came from Germany and I bought them in Australia from the daugher-in-law of the lady who brought them back from Germany. She also had a matching ring but it was set in gold and I didn't buy it which I now regret :(

I love this clasp which is marked Germany and 935 ... It is a seriously big clasp for seriously big pearls.

Thanks Pattye,

I really do love these pearls and they look great on. Big but not too big and they feel like true luxury. And I picked them up at a reasonable price but as I was horribly broke at the time I was lucky :)

I do have a thing about baroque pearls, just think they are far more interesting than perfectly round pearls. And naturally - natural pearls are funky or baroque or just plain out right weird lookng as Caitlin has mentioned. Not all those I think she just said funky or similar. So sorry to mis-quote Caitlin. I did send Caitlin a photo of these a couple or more weeks back along with other cultured pearls I had and she said that these were the best Akoyas she had ever seen. Hope I am not mis-quoting ?aitlin again but she did think they were very special. Which is exactly what I think of them.

Out of all my collections (non natural) these are the only ones I have not listed. I tried too, but I just can't do it. Guess I love them too much. I have listed on eBay other items which I truly love but these tug at my heart so I just need to hang on to them, at least for the time being. Everyone needs to keep at least one necklace of Akoya fantastic pearls.

I do have loads more photos so if you want to see more just let me know although I think these photos give an all round good look at them. z

pattye, what do you think of baroque such as this necklace and totally round Akoya. Your opinion is always welcome because you know your pearls and are a great judge of same. To me the baroques show much more lustre and appear to have a much thick nacre. I am sure these have a very thick nacre.

Dawn,

Have not had much experience with Akoya specifically, since the 90's when I was selling Miki's in retail fine jewelry. The rounds were pretty but sooo expensive, but then I saw a strand of baroque akoya Miki's one of the sales associates purchased as a special order for much, much less than the rounds. I thought them so much more interesting!

Your favorite strand is a great size, with outstanding luster and likely very thick nacre. Have you ever restrung them and peered down the drill hole?

Baroques and keshi are personal favorites for my own wear. However, I have not examined Hanadama in person, and will admit I might be swayed-----------they are amazing in photos, and in person, no doubt even better!

Hi Dawn,

your strand is just beautiful. I would love to see a neck shot! Lovely size, and the nacre looks thick and lush. A true treasure! Enjoy them (don't be tempted to list them!!)!

Gorgeous pearls! I'm glad that you're enjoying them.

I've noticed that after I post photos, they don't show up on my computer for two or three days while others can see them right away. I wonder what's up?!

Hi Nerida,

No I have decided not to sell them. I just love them too much. I have parted with so many pieces but not this pearl necklace :) Barry is not a very good photographer but maybe I can get someone in town to take a photo of me wearing them. The last time a customer wanted a neck shot Barry could not take an unblurred one so in the end I got him to wear the necklace. We both got quite a giggle out of that. It looked so weird on him. That was a coral necklace. Naturally had to explain to the customer why my husband was wearing the necklace but I really don't believe Barry did the necklace any justice at all :)

Hi pattye,

I haven't restrung them or I should say Barry hasn't restrung them as he is my stringer and getting very good at it. Really professional now. I think they must have been restrung shortly before I bought them. But I will try and peer down a drill hole. I think I have previously and I am sure all I could see was nacre so must be thick.

Hi GemGeek,

I am sure the double up on photos was my fault as I did forget to size the first lot and they were pending approval but by the time I put them up sizes the others had also gone through, hence the double up on the photos. I am not entirely used to this new system we have here on the PGF and wish it was the way it was before. I guess I just must answer more thread or put up more photos so that I become used to it. :)

Looks like Barry did a good job to me; he captured some lovely color!

Hi lisa c,

Sorry, don't think I explained very well. I take the photos but when I needed a neck shot I got Barry to try and then all photos came out blurred. That is why I ended up taking a photo of him wearing a necklace ..

Like I said, those my favorite akoyas ever! even though Blaire has the best akoya necklace I have seen yet. I did not care for akoyas, but those two are spectacular exceptions. My keyboard just went out (again)The enter button does notwork at all. I hateto, but I haveto take this thing in to get repaired..... don't know when I'll be back.

Hi Caitlin,

Thanks once again.

Blaire,

Please post photos of your best ever akoya pearl necklace :)

jas932,

Only by the lustre. They do appear to be akoyas but for some time I had hope they were South Sea pearls due to their large size. Maybe an expert could let us know for sure. I think my photos are good enough to display all the qualities of Akoya versus South Sea.
