Latest find! These are largest ones that I've got on Ebay so far, 7.5 to 8mm, 26" long. Curious what the pearl pros think of them, this time I paid 80.00, so they were a little more expensive than I would usually buy, definitely need re-strung, few knots are slipped! Clasp says 14k IWI?

I think that they are akoyas. Could be some good imitation. I have bought some fake akoyas for making a faux treasure chest for Not-husbands granddaughter. One of the double strands were a great imitation of a baroque akoya strand. It's in an older tread somewhere. I found the photos of the two strands. The first one is the baroque one.

I did restring them and added vintage silver and marcasite clasps. They look real but I can feel that they aren't real just by holding them

Good day ladies, thanks for weighing in on this, and thank you Charlotta for pictures! They feel rough when rubbed together, and produced a small amount of white powdery material, they check out under uv, and passed tooth test, so I feel pretty sure they are real, just unsure of type, and possibly a grade?

Well, I don't know about type or grade. But they are round and have good luster. I am not sure one can tell with akoyas that are preloved. Maybe by sending them to what it's name? GIA? But that is probably more expensive that your initial cost. I would clean them and restring them (probably would combine them with tahitians as well but thats just me, haha). I don't know the grade of my own vintage akoyas either...

Good morning! well, just because of the surface imperfections I was able to see in many of the pearls I would guess it is a A to AA grade strand.
Most people will never notice them...but when you have had the job of actually setting a grade/value to pearls (like I did for 30 years) you just can't avoid doing it always.
It's a very nice Akoya necklace :)

Thank you very much for that, personally I'm very much pleased with your built-in assessment and grading system, definitely a useful skill in your line of work! Sadly, some butthead stole my handbag while i was shoe shopping on Saturday, and these pearls were in there, along with all the rest of my life! Been busy trying to get documents replaced, and hoping that no one shows up at my home, as theyve got my address, home and car keys! Ive been ill over the whole thing. Thank goodness thats not a representation of the majority of the human race, its still disheartening, however. Sad about my pearls, at least I have pictures. Am posting a couple more necklaces I got right about the same time, but they're smaller pearls, and shorter. One strand very white, so I'm curious to see about it. Thanks to all!

I am so sorry that someone stole your bag. Hopefully by now you have changed your locks? So that you can feel safer.

Oh! Sad to hear about the news :(
It's always such discomfort when you experience a theft, large or small.

There's always someone home, its not really an issue, our home is protected well, my husband and I both grew up in gun owning, hunting families, and both are skilled marksmen, more importantly, we're not afraid to defend ourselves by whatever means necessary, although I pray to never be faced with those type of decisions. Im personally not the hunter, prefer to grow my harvest, but ive prepared, and preserved many deer, as a child of an alaska salmon troller. , so im very gun safety conscious! There was a few propped in every corner in my childhood! The house is also end of a cul de sac, with close neighbors and we all watch out for each other. Had to get a club to lock my steering wheel at night though, as theyve got my keys. Sorry to ramble, feeling a bit violated, but definitely lesson learned! Ive always been somewhat naive and trusting of people, regardless of how many times the universe tries to convince me otherwise, lol! Will probably be getting doors re-keyed next week, just in case we go out of town.

Thanks for the kind words Douglas, yes it was overall a expensive and emotionally draining lesson, to be sure!

Faith, that's so distressing! When my purse was stolen ... right from my car in front of my own house! ... it took weeks to get all my ID's back, and over a year to get one department store credit card fixed. I was lucky no one used my cards nor any of my info, the culprits were likely warned that the police were involved, and probably dumped my purse in a quarry after looking for the cash I did NOT have LOL ... still hurts that the pocket knife my Dad gave me was in there ...

Years ago, thieves got into our home when we were away on a trip. They stole many things but my wife's jewelry was the greatest loss. She had jewelry that belonged to her grandparents and that had sentimental value, and it was gold too!
All the jewelry I had purchased her too. We have never fully recovered from this :02:

Cathykeshi and Douglas, thank you for sharing your loss, and for allowing me to do the same. I feel almost a physical pain hearing of your losses, and particularly those treasures of the heart! Happily my loss was monetary, although losing my new Pearl's, which I paid I think, 80.00 for, still stings as I didn't get a chance to wear them, but maybe that's best, because I didn't totally "bond" with them, lol! I was happily able to restore my photos, contacts, etc, thank you google!

I'm off to the Ebay thread, just bought a strand of Pearl's, they've shipped out today, but I'm dying to find out what all y'all's opinions are, so weigh in at your convenience, please! Blessings!
