Hi these were a gift from dad to mom in the early 70's. She never wore them much, and I don't either.
Can anyone please tell me possible origin, fresh/salt/etc and what might they be worth?

Clasp is 14K, see pics for measurements.

Thanks in advance, I appreciate your help! L

They are akoyas, not fully round. They appear to be around 7.5mm, and somewhat cream colored. The luster is soft rather than sharp, but pretty.
The gold clasp is a plus.

It sounds like you may be thinking of selling them. That may be the best thing if you don't wear them and if you have no one to give them to.

Unfortunately there is not a lot of demand for pre-owned pearls unless they are a major brand (Mikimoto) or historic pearls. Anyone who buys the necklace will have to restring it. The silk has stretched and there are gaps. Old silk is weakened silk, and the thread could break and a pearl or two (or the whole necklace) be lost. So restringing is not optional.

I would not pay to have it restrung before listing it; you won't make back your money. You can sell them just as they are (giving them a bath first in mild soapy water so they are clean) and let the buyer worry about restringing, but you may get a better price for them if you restring them yourself so that they are ready to wear.
If you feel inclined to do that, check out my tutorial:

To get an idea of how much money you may sell them for, I suggest you search on eBay for SOLD necklaces like yours. Ultimately the value is whatever people are willing to pay.

thanks- now how do I measure properly? from tip to tail? If silk is stretched/weakened how much should I take off to be most accurate in length?

Open the clasp and measure the necklace from one end to the other, including the clasp. That is the current length.
Don't try to compensate for stretched silk.
Unless you are actually measuring the pearls with calipers, do not state they are 7.5mm. That is just my estimate.
