Oh dear,

As we ladies thought we had driven the guys out of the competition for pearl jewelry for good, on comes David Beckham with a Tahitian pendant just to be followed by the new Prince of Pearls Australian heart throb Ian Thorpe who usurped the white South Sea pearls for manly wear. Read this:

We made a Tahitian pearl on leather solitaire for Pierce Brosnan last year. You can see him wearing in on the cover of Vanity Fair, April 2005, Italian Edition. Unfortunately they did not mention the piece. We actually made it by the request of his wife, a good customer and a true Tahitian pearl lover.

I think the Rana of Dholpur was a little bit of overkill:D . I can see Johnny Depp wearing a pair of plain Tahitian cufflinks - that would look good!

How about Apolo Ohno?! No fur there!

Tahitian pearls can be very masculine and pulled off beautifully when worn correctly. I have many clients who love the Tahitian cufflinks. They look striking with a baby blue or white French cuff shirt. This is not a new trend. Looking back at the history of pearls, monarchs had bountiful collections of pearls and wore them proudly.

The leather piece actually has a following with women as well. We are thinking of pushing it as a uni-sex piece.

Nicollette Sheridan with Kevin Zeger wearing matching Tahitians.

Men wearing pearls....... Two of my Favorite subjects... ;)LOL.... anyway.... I like the Unisex connotation for the leather thong and pearl..... Personally if men could and did wear many pearl necklaces, adorn their clothing as well as big drops as earrings for some examples, in Queen Elizabeth I time, what is one pearl on a leather thong/cord now..... I like it....... I can see Sean Conery wearing a Scottish pearl drop earing... only in black....... would stand out nicely with his dapper gray hair......

Hi Cliclasp,
Gemgeek's link still works for me and yes it's the same that you found.

Ooh la la ! I likeD Sean Connery too, but I've switched to Agent 007 aka Pierce.

Gemgeek, I read that he frequents BarAcuda in Ching Young Village in Hanalei town. Maybe I will see him in person this June. :D

One of my best memories is the time I saw a James Bond triple-feature of the first three films. It was at a theater in Fullerton, California that used to be an enormous swimming pool. The seats went downhill from the shallow to the deep end. They especially liked it because they could hose it down between shows. Not that we kids were rowdy or anything! ;)

Cliclasp, yes that's it. Thanks for putting up the photo.

Hanalei Mom- Paradise awaits you in June, and you might get a Pierce-sighting out of it, too! Cool  There's a pearl store near Poipu named Savage Pearls and they have an incredible display of antique Ni i'hau shell jewelry and, of course, a lot of great pearl jewelry if you're in the neighborhood.

Well, Pierce may be finally getting the scowl down properly!! I agree, he is looking more "seasoned."

Would like a close up of the pearls on Ian!!! Nice!!

Love your recollection of the swimming pool theatre, Blaire!

so many pearls, so little time

Hi Mary,

I bought two Tahitian pearls on Silk cords for my husband and my father. They are both knotted, i.e. without a clasp but with a loop through which the knot goes.

Probably You could use the same type of clasp as they do with leather, some sort of crimp on the one side and a Jumpring on the other, everything is left to your own imagnination!

I have several of the chokers. The first one I bought from Pearl Paradise (a Tahitian) had two knots that slid across the leather cord, making the necklace adjustable. It was very easy to use, but I didn't like it after about 6 months - the leather started looking very worn from the sliding of the knots back and forth. I had the leather cord replaced with new leather and a traditional lobster clasp. It works just fine and the leather stays looking good. I use the lobster clasps on all of the leather cords now...

Same here- we finish the pieces with either 14K or Sterling Lobster clasps. They are easy to use and prevent wear and tear on the leather.
