lampwork and pearls

I guess I should have titled this pearls and lampwork, gotta get the priorities right. I do lampwork and I did a special order for someone and had some orphans left over and decided to play. I think the chocolate and metallic pearls look really nice together. In fact, I think this one is a keeper.

Those lampwork beads are beautiful! The colours in the bracelet goes so well together, it's a really nice bracelet fit for fall.

I've been thinking about taking lamp work courses but the fact that I'd need a kiln if I want to make them myself at my home is off-putting, since a kiln is superexpensive!

What are lampwork beads? Is it the bead with rings around it?

Lampwork is beads that you make out of glass rods in various colours over an open flame.

You use a type of mandrel and heat the glass until the glass get the consistence of honey and then you put the melted glass around the mandrel, making a bead. You can make lots of different beads, little animals, round beads, round beads with decorations on etc.

Lampwork is quite a bad word actually, it's often called flame work in U.S I think but I'm not sure, might be in EU it's called flame work. Lamp work makes you think that it's about lamps, doesn't it?

Hi Donna, The picture of the pearls and the pendant was taken at the start of a snow storm and you can see the little snowflakes. The bracelet is another one that I kept because I liked it so much. Thanks for your kind words.
