Knots per inch?

Hi Everyone!

What a great place this is--- I feel like I know many of you already. :)

Quick question: how many knots per inch should I expect when stringing a necklace?

I bought a wonderful 36" multi-colored FW/SSP strand from Druzy and need the finished necklace to be 35" with a mystery clasp. Not sure what length to send to PP. 32"? 33?" Somewhere in between?

Thanks in advance for your expertise.

Hi BBS7th, and welcome to the forum, and thanks for your humour!

Wow, this was a lovely strand, I remember looking at it a couple of times on Carolyn's site. Great purchase! Congratulations!

Look, there is a formula ( a groovy little calculator linked on another thread) - here is the link: http://bypatrice.com/bead.php but I would just send the lot of it to PP and they will work it out for you, and they will work out the nicest arrangement of the pearls, and also happily send the extras back for you... or turn them into a pair of earrings or something else that takes your fancy - I am sure they would be more than happy to do the maths for you!

Hi Nerida,

Thanks for the welcome and your response. Very helpful!

So you know the strand! Care's glorious golden necklace found a loving home as well. :)

Great suggestion about letting PP make the final adjustments (though I really do hate to be a bother.) I'd like to send them a strand as close to optimal as possible.

Hoping to post some pics. Just trying to figure out how to put my pearls around Kaywal's neck.......;)

Welcome BBS7th,
Oh yes, wow !
I had my eye on that strand too.
Very, very nice....
Do please post pics. when you get the finished necklace back - I don't care whose neck it's on.......:D
Oh, and I have to ask - what's a carpool lane ?

Hi Sueki,

Now THat's a compliment! I'm a huge admirer of your collection. Simply breathtaking. I've also been on your website a couple of times--- before my new-found obsession with everything nacreous, most of my treasure-hunting centered around Haskell, Schiaparelli, Hobe, et al. You have some really wonderful pieces. How can you bear to part with a single one?!

Yes, it's a GReat strand--- Care lengthened it to 36" with a large Golden at the other end so it will double symmetrically. Can't wait to wear it!

As to your question....suburban mothers often spend a good deal of time in a long car line, waiting to pick up/drop off their children from school (or daycare.) Must be a uniquely American phenomenon?

Hi bbs7th,
Thanks for your comments !
Truth be told I can't bear to part with them; but I do have a large collection, so I just tell myself that they are going to more appreciative keepers who will wear them more often than I do....

Carpool lane - thanks for the explanation. Ha ha ! It may or may not be an American thing, I don't know. But every lane is like that here.....;)

Hi bbs7th - any update on what you've done with this lovely strand?
