Hi there, I’m super new to anything about pearls and bought an oyster to be opened via a live video. When she showed it to me I noticed a small scratch looking thing. Is it a scratch? Can it be fixed ?

Thanks!

Oh, my, I agree with Marianne. The damage cannot be fixed, and that is a dyed freshwater pearl, not an akoya. Freshwater pearls of low value are placed inside live juvenile saltwater oysters so that people will think the pearls were cultured in that oyster. The oyster is then killed by being immersed in chemicals that make it close its shell before it dies.
It's a nasty business all around.

I also agree cancel it. These are commercial quality freshwaters worth less than the shipping you paid to send it to you.

you're better off buying a real pearl from a reputable online vendor. That, or just buy yourself a real fresh oyster, shuck it and enjoy with a dash of lemon and salt. ;)

this pearl-in-oyster scam just has to stop!
