Hi all! I am very new to the pearl community. I have been increasingly interested in pearls ever since I inherited this beautiful set from my grandma. We are originally from the Philippines and was told this is a Philippine Sea Pearl. It passed all test except the grit test. Very cold to touch & adapts easily to warm body temperature. No visible hallmarks but are set in 14k gold with authentic small diamonds all tested to be real. I am just wondering why there is no grit at all when rubbing them. I am attaching some pics. Hoping to get some help from the experts. Thanks in advance.

I've never felt "grit" when rubbing real pearls together, and I have both real and fake ones to compare. I do better just looking at the surface and seeing if they look real. I can't tell from your photos, though.

It's possible they were polished and that that reduced the grittiness.

Thank you for your response. I’ll try to see if i can take better pics.

Whereas I always feel grittiness when testing akoya and freshwater pearls, I rarely do with South Sea pearls or Tahitians.

Thanks for that info. I feel better knowing it is possible to not have the grittiness on South Sea Pearls.
