It it not necessarily platinum or silver, I have a nice art deco diamond ring set in palladium. Evidently during the deco period they used that metal a lot for jewelry, maybe having to do with rationing of gold or silver? Not sure, was not born then. To answer your question about the cut of the diamond, the older cuts such as rosecut or mine cut, they are not as "in your face" brilliant as the modern diamonds, but they tend to sparkle more in dim or candlelight. One of our gemologists would have to explain the technical aspects, and it is hard to tell from the photo. It is a lovely clasp regardless. And since you are planning on keeping it for future wife or daughter, probably not worth the money to have it tested or officially appraised. Better photos will help, but so far the necklace looks very lovely!
