Well, Youtube had a hand in it!!! I've been stringing pearls on beading wire for a while. I had the silk sitting there, but was too afraid to try my hand! This weekend I broke down and decided I would try making a knotted rope with some largish FW pearls I bought from Majestic Pearl at a show. After a couple of false starts, I got it going. I only have about 3 places where the knots aren't as snug to the pearls as I wish, but I'm going to leave them for now!!! If I can get photos I will post them, I just wanted to tell someone since I have been dancing around this for quite a while now!!

The knotted strands are LIGHT YEARS ahead of my "wire with beads to simulate knots" strands that I have been doing.....

Thanks for listening!!! ;-)

I am impressed. I haven't dared try my hand yet. Congratulations.

Congrats! Pretty soon you'll be stringing and knotting everything you can find that has a hole lol.

Now we need pictures, of course :)

What you need to remember when you have a go is that how it turns out doesn't matter. Because you can cut it all up and do it again and again and again and the pearls won't mind a bit. I thought I was reasonable when I started out but I came across an old strand a bit ago and CRINGE. but two minutes with the scissors and who knew?
I've seen some terrible slack knotting done by professional re-stringers where the jeweller charged nearly ?100 and I was tempted to redo it for nothing just to demonstrate how terrible and how expensive.
We all did a first strand. I bet we would all cringe now to look upon it.

It's great that you dove right in and knotted a strand! Doesn't it feel empowering?

Wendy is right-- if you decide to redo it at some point, thread is cheap and the practice is good for you! Even after knotting many strands, occasionally I need to re-do one. It happened yesterday, in fact. The knots were a bit off, the necklace hung oddly and I didn't like how it looked, so I did it over.

It is SO useful to be able to knot when you love pearln. And you can use the money you save from not having to buy 'ready-made' on getting better pearls :)

Congratulations! Your jewelry box will now look like a Resource Box to you, and so will thrift stores, and yard sales, and...fun times ahead!

Thanks everyone!! I did watch Caitlin on Youtube!!! It is very empowering to finally do it, and see that I CAN do it!! Now I am cutting up the old strands on wire and getting ready to rework. I have some large peanut pearls laid out right now, with a carved mother of pearl goldfish centerpiece.

I will try to post pictures as soon as possible. It is nice to get encouragement from you all!!!!!
