I recently came back from my second trip to Manila and have officially become addicted to pearls. A couple of weeks ago I discovered this forum and decided to give creating my own necklaces a try.

I went to a local shop and got some starter pearl beads for a necklace. Here is the product of my first attempt. I am so pround of it. :)

Thank you all for all of the good information here that made the task much easier than I would of thought. I welcome any helpful hints. (and now I am challenged with taking a successful picture of my pearls)

Mary

Welcome to the forum and the Lowly Beaders Club, and excellent first effort :)

DK :)

You should be proud, because it looks wonderful. It's best to admit your addiction and just get on with it! ;)

Welcome!

Thank you for the welcome. This sight seems very open and that's why I like it.

Not to mention that all of you will be my enablers in the future. (Or at least that is what I am going to tell people. ;) )

Hi Maryd and welcome! You do of course know that all we are going to do is feed your addiction.... it is a never ending spiral!

Nice necklace - it looks great!

Welcome aboard Mary:
Nice necklace. I quite like the colors and your knotting job is great. Now be a good little forum member and go buy some more.

Hi Maryd,
Welcome to the forum - and welcome to the slippery slope.... :)
Those "starter pearl beads" have lovely lustre.
Great first attempt at knotting, too.
Yep, you're well and truly hooked. :D

You should be proud - that is an excellent job! Welcome to the ranks of the pearl-crazed :D

I know, I know, my craziness is already setting in.

My boss mentioned a business trip to Manila and all I hear is pearl markets and can I fit a side trip in to China.

In the meantime I am just trying to get the lay of the land. Places to buy pearls, threads, clasps, etc. It is a whole new world and I am trying to start slow. Ok, I said trying to.

Did you realize when you were making this that you made the perfect design choice of the smaller pearls next to the clasp to give the clasp more room for closing and created less stress on the larger pearls? You're a natural.

Great job. Your local shop has some nice beading pearls, all the shops in my local area have are dyed and dull luster pearls.

Mary, welcome to Pearl-guide and the Lowly Beaders' Club. I hope you can find lots more beading pearls to feed your addiction.

I had no clue!!! But I am glad you told me so I can do it on purpose in the future.

Very nice! Did you say what you used for knotting? Silk? Multiple strands?

I used two strands of silk E thread based upon a recommendation of Caitlin's in a previous note. The woman at the bead store tried to get me to use a single thread method and I kept saying no I wanted the other thread so I could get tighter knots.

At least I sounded knowledgeable.
