I'm off to Hong Kong next week, and am going to attempt some instagram live video (@PearlescencePearls). No specific timetable, just plan to go when I encounter someone or something of a pearl interest.
If there is anything you want to see let me know and I will try.

G'Day Wendy!
Sounds lovely!
Would love to see if you encounter some of those "Baby Akoya" that are actually FWPs!

I've got a bit of a thing for tiny pearls at the moment so I will prowl the aisles. I'll certainly be going to Grace anyway even though their new office doesn't have the fabulous harbour view any more.
Grace/ Edison was producing some really lustrous white round bead nuked 8mm pearls - the classic size and shape for the last couple of years, as well as some black/peacock dyed ones and their squillions of dyed big golds.

If you ever go to JCK/Tucson, you can visit us. I have those baby fwp you can see. All size from 2mm to 6mm.
I will be sure to do this @Yens !

We are getting ready to leave for Hong Kong and I just stumbled across this Gem in my photos :) It was a Pearl-Guide Ruckus of sorts!

Fun!

I'm back from a great hong kong trip. Hope those of you who looked enjoyed my insta posts. Here's one pearl I found. It will be jewellery or some form of wearable stabbie self defenceView attachment 471041
Stabbie Self-Defense LOL
Since Halloween is almost upon us...maybe a small vampire "pearl stake" would be in order?

Can you please tell us your thoughts on this year's HK show? What drew your attention there?

It was quiet with fewer sellers and fewer buyers. In the week before I was sometimes the only person in a wholesaler's office whereas a few years ago there would be a crush - getting the pick of the pearls before they ever travel to the show itself. Prices were up, but some sellers' outdated selling attitudes did leave them with piles of stock. Most sellers were gloomy though looking forward to lower prices once the post-covid recovery harvest pearls start to reach the market.

Thank for the report Wendy @pearlescence
I heard just a tidbit...lower sales caused by Chinese buyers not showing up, even when domestic pearl sales in China are skyrocketing!

The buyers are too afraid. So many have been locked up over the past couple of years. One was just arrested a couple of weeks ago. When they pay a 50%+ duty to import pearls into China, they are very used to carrying them over the border. Customs has been really cracking down in China.
Here are a few fun shots from the show!
