Help from expert eyes

Got two pairs of pearls, wanted to make my first piece of jewelry. Both pairs are labeled as south sea pearls but I suspect the upper one are dyed Edison(U). They got ripple like surface, not smooth. Color seems fake for whatever reason.The drilled hole is small, but the inside looks like white/light instead of gold.
the lower ones (L) are near round/bottons shape, better luster but I cannot be sure it’s SS. From the hole it seems the color is consistent. Price wise, the lower ones are like four times more than the upper ones.

Any opinions from experts here would be highly appreciated!

Hello CoconutWatermelon... nice pearls! Both pairs look lovely to me but the one you suspect as Edison does not strike me as an Edison at all, it does look like a saltwater pearl. Those "ripples" I have seen on many SSPs (including white ones) ...it's a mix of escleroproteins and nacre that I find more common in 2nd and even 3rd harvest pearls.
Now...I'm looking at photos...eyes are amazing, then there's your "gut feeling" too, so I do not discount your judgment.
The drill holes..I can't really see much; I do see a somewhat lighter color but I don't see a bead. Maybe natural color changes...maybe heat treated?

CortezPearls rt thank you so much! I guess ripple is natural thing to have then. And I agree with you they are probably dyed, these color seems got sunk unnaturally around the cracks/ripples.

I cannot see whether it got nuc inside without any magnifier. Sorry

If anyone can provide dyed Edison as comparison that would be very educational!

It looks fantastic! It either is a Metallic FWP of fine quality or a very good SSP...the golden color and the rosé overtone makes it dreamy. If it is natural colored...WOW! If it "color enhanced" (and you may never know!) it is also a wow!.

One of these is South Sea, the other is dyed nucleated freshwater (best dye job I've ever encountered. Not an Edison. They can have a faint brown tinge) (page 28!)

Yes indeed. I have also seen those "paint jobs" and they are very good. I would still go for all-natural colors (because that is what I appreciate best) but it is easy to understand why some would choose the fake colors. It's all about being INFORMED: if you are not deceived, then it is all just peachy.

pearlescence thanks. Interesting picture as the painted/dyed come in more uniformed, which is probably the motivation behind these action. ‘Cause finding these uniformed SSP is much more expensive and not affordable. Thanks for sharing it!

CortezPearls yeah. I read another article here and it says the only way to tell whether it’s dyed or not ( for excellent dyed) would to have the test. I guess it’s a good point to stop my curiosity here now lol. I love my pearls
