grey faceted Tahitian pearl ring

Yes the pandora ones are the ones you don't want to buy these are the cheap fresh water pearls with coating and then faceted I hate how a brand like pandora can always make something nice into crap

You never want a product like this into fashion jewellery it will take away all the High end costumers that are willing to pay for a actual quality pearl cut by people who cut for years and don't need to treat the pearl because it's a nacre layer that's already thick enough so you get a good quality pearl that will stay good etc

It reminds me of an observatory roof or a viking headgear a bit :D. It is very intriguing.

"And I still haven't found what I was looking for ..."

How are these pearls faceted : by a nucleus special shape ? after harvest ?
Could someone explain how they do this ?
THANKS

Hi Anna,

I have some freshwater faceted pearls, some dyed, some not. They seem to be faceted after harvest. I feel any bead nucleated pearl would need to be hand faceted, but have no definite information. None of the pearls I have appear to have any coating. I will add photos later today.

Thank you, I cannot make up my mind whether I like it or find it strange... thinking...

I like snakeskin leather. This type of faceting reminds me of snakeskin or turtle armor. But somehow I don't like it on pearls.

Kathy, yes, def a snakeskin effect. All of these pearls are cultured freshwater. The large dark ones are from John Tu. They are more shallowly faceted than the others.

The dyed green ones and the baroque natural color have the most translucent effect.

The natural color ones certainly appear to have been hand faceted. Sorry, these didn't download in the order I thought they would.

Because they are inexpensive and funky, I tend to think of them more as "beads" than pearls. Dian, I do think the pretty white ones like yours look most like pearls, I have some similar, but haven't strung them up.

The smoothness of round / oval pearls, and the irregularity of baroque / keishis is what I love. So facetted pearls aren't for me. Each to her own, of course!

Pattye - When you see these white pearls in person, I don't think you can mistake them for anything but pearls. Although they would make interesting 'bead' components to beaded designs and I have toyed with the idea of taking them apart and interspacing them with some gemstone beads. All that being said, I have had them a long time, but have only worn them 2 or 3 times. While I think they are interesting and I do like to look at them, and they do sparkle in low light, I simply prefer my other pearls. And I know I would never buy faceted tahitians. I just consider these faceted pearls as a curiosity and as lower on the quality scale. Maybe just something for fun. Maybe that's it...you just can't take them seriously.

Eeeeeeek - 'Pearldar' has gone into reverse.....

whatever happened to 'organic gem'.....

sometimes we just can't improve on nature.....

but what about diamonds I hear you say ?

hmmmm, yes - but pearls are pearls

Hey-ho, each to her/his own
