Following The Hong Kong Pearl Report - a new video!

That was so interesting, Jeremy!

I had no idea the Chinese First Lady is also a singer.

Thank you for sharing Jeremy!

Haha the lesson here is to scoop up as much akoyas as we can before China further cooks up the price!

They already have. Akoya are the toughest thing to buy at the shows. Two years ago when Gold South Sea were trending in China prices went through the roof in the rounds (they only buy the rounds).

Very interesting...where was that thread about politics and pearls? Maybe if we have a female POTUS, she will set some trends with her variety of pearls!
eta: I am not endorsing any candidate...only endorsing that a potential POTUS who can also rock pearls might be a good thing!

Great video! Very informative. I had no idea that the Chinese First Lady was a singer either. But she sure has people talking about the pearls she wears - Creating a fashion trend in China! I have known for a while that all kinds of pearls were popular with the Chinese, whose middle class is steadily growing. But recently I have felt it when buying Tahitian pearls in Polynesia. It seems like the market for Tahitians has bottomed and is rising again. I can't buy the same higher quality goods at the same prices that I could a year ago. Lower quality is still pretty much the same but in the nicer pearls (like rounds) things have moved up and most people who I deal with down there cite Chinese demand as the main reason.

Is it just akoya or is it happening for all other types of pearls?

Lol seems like the preference for pearl types goes in waves (from golden to akoya, etc).
Any feel for what's heating up next?

Thank goodness for baroques! And my Kojima Kasumi pearl ring!
