I really like Cliclasp - and as soon as I get a large worthy strand, I'm going for it. The other dilemma though, is that when I do get a larger worthy pearl strand, will I be willing to have the pearl drilled a little more?

glad you like it too
In case you would be afraid to drill the center of one pearl from a future "worthy strand",
you can put a clasp in between that does not come from a pearl from the strand,
for example here under (and you can even see the sea !!)

I think that the foldover type of clasps can be different types of shape but there is a safety-pin that is folded over the clasp and pushed on a little loop, that is tight enough, not to unhook it easily. For example you could have a rectangular clasp and above it there is this safety device in the shape of a pin that hooks on to a little "knob" or something like it.

the picture you posted shows a ball clasp and it has a security device as well. The fold over clasps works on a similar basis but the security device is on the outside so to speak, but not like the ball clasp, where the pin goes into the clasp itself. Unfortunately I do not have a pic of a fold over so it is hard to explain. Perhaps Caitlin has a clasp of this type to post a picture of. I am going to look a bit more into it.

Browsing a catalouge I just found an example of a foldover that You might have seen: on expensive bracelets in gold with gem stones very often are fold over clasps. If you open it it does look like a "V" with one bar to the left and one to the right. I you "fold over" the upper bar, which is the safety device, the bars are closed in a sandwich-like fashion. Hope you understand the principle of it....

A lot, if not most, of metal women's watches also have fold over clasps, if that helps

I've never seen them with pearls either come to think of it, only on bracelets with stones. That picture's really interesting. Where's it from? It looks kind of like the carving's on totem poles in the American northwest and Alaska

I haven't quite gotten to making my profile yet . I'm an American living in Edinburgh, Scotland. I saw some nice pearl jewelry in a catalog and I wanted to do some research before spending money and found P-G through google. I got hooked pretty quickly and I didn't end up buying the jewelry (turns out it was really overpriced and I would have just been paying for the name), I did get started on making a few strands of my own which I'm hoping to post once I have my camera back. I'm surprised how quickly I got obsessed with pearls, even the farming and industry stuff, but I love them and it's really better than sitting around and doing nothing so I guess it's alright in the long run. My own collection is still pretty small but I've started to covet my mother's collection, which I'd never paid too much attention to. I definitely appreciate her pearls more now

I spent a year in Endinbugh. Was working just off the royal mile. I loved the city and really enjoyed the long summer days.

London's not too bad either I love the Edinburgh summers too (it's fun having the sun set so late) but the Edinburgh winters get me down sometimes, it's hard to get used to the sun setting at 4!

Definitely! I had a lot of fun lurking in your other thread in the Pearl History section. As for how they used Horus, I have no idea. I can't quite figure out how they might have used it. It doesn't really look like a clasp. The Egyptian Museum in Cairo has a lot of great pieces, but they don't allow photography inside Is it some kind of brooch?
