Hi All,
While designing a necklace with Tahitian pearls I just for some unknown reason picked up my pearl fluorescence and some of the showed fluorescence. I had believed that only Cortez showed a pink fluorescence so I am rather confused.

I have always used this test as a way to make sure Cortez Pearls were actually Cortez but to have Tahitians show the same or similar result is truly confusing to me.

Any help woud be greatly appreciated. I truly don't actually know why I pulled out my light but I did and now - well I am

Tahitian pearls can show light pink fluorescence, but it isn't usually strong. Cortez pearls have a very strong fluorescence.

Thanks GemGeek, I will go through all those that show fluorescence and guage them against known Cortez. Some of the Tahitians I checked did have a paler fluorescence but a couple had a deep pink. Those with a lighter colouring so I will check properly.

Much appreciated.

Thanks, Dawn

I would not use fluorescence as a test for Cortez pearls - just as a way of verifying a direct purchase. Lots of other pearls fluoresce, especially if they have been treated. Have fun with your light!
