It means one has read the Pearls course and taken/passed the test. The course is not the most thorough, but is a good introduction to pearls. We have people here take the course when they start working with us. It usually takes 1-2 weeks.

Hmmmmm.....An introductory course.... so perhaps not really a course that would be taken/needed by someone with "20 yrs exp in the pearl industry". Interesting.

Introductory is how I would describe it, but GIA just calls it their Pearls course. It's the only course they have. I think it would be good for all jewelers to take it to have more of a pearl education.
