Clean pearls with cotton pads?

I usually wipe my vintage akoya pearl studs with a wet cotton make-up pad every night, but I'm unsure if it's safe for the nacre?

Do you mean a plain cotton pad or one of those that have make-up remover, lotion or any kind of moisturizer on it?

The plain cotton pads! The ones where you can put water on it yourself etc.

If it's only damp and not actually wet (which could wet the silk) I would think a soft cotton pad is okay.

I prefer a microfiber cloth as it doesn't leave fuzz behind and I can wrap it all around the strand and draw it over the strand to clean it.
