Can you tell me what kind of pearls these are, and what their value is?

My brother in law had given to me as a gift for my weeding. He was stationed in china or Japan and got them there back in 1997. It has a 14k clasp.

From the eggy shapes I would think it's a cultured freshwater strand. It's pretty-- do you enjoy wearing it?
