Can you tell me about my grandmother's pearls?

They do wear down, but put it in perspective: My MiL wore pearls everyday- usually ropes- for almost 70 years. The nacre was a bit worn and chipped around the drill holes and several pearls were goners. I say wear them and love them. Maybe by the time they start wearing there will be a pearl bank where you can get matching replacements!

Or - by the time you wear them out you could have saved up enough to replace them. I wore mine everyday for ~ 10 yrs before they got worn looking, and I bought mine used!
