Can you help me with this maker's mark? ... or the value of this necklace?

My customer has a double strand of lovely pearls with a very clever platinum clasp set with rubies and diamonds. The clasp is stamped with what seems to be a maker's mark. The mark seems to be a pair of initials superimposed over one another. The letters may be L and E or L and C. Do you have any idea who this maker is? Or where I can possibly determine the value of the necklace? One strand is 15.5 inches; the other is 16" and both have pearls that are 8 to 8.5mm in diameter.

Hi Janet,

Welcome! Well, this is a lovely necklace, and certainly an unusual clasp. Would you say that is an art deco design?

Is it possible three initials are superimposed? I'm not having much luck on searches. But of course, depending on the carat weight of the diamonds and rubies and platinum, significant value is in the clasp, too. The pearls look of very high quality also; they would be Akoya.

If the customer is considering selling, they perhaps should contact someone like Bonhams.

What has your client told you about the provenance of the piece? When and where acquired, etc.

I believe the clasp is likely to he platinum too, and very nice too! I could be wrong, however, it could be Art Deco period.

DK :)
