I've been poking around here for a time whilst researching options for a strand of black South Sea Tahitian pearls. I see that kamoka pearls are well favored here but have found so few options for these online and those that I've found I can't be certain they appear much different than other Tahitian pearls I've seen.

Would the folk her suggest that provenance might be less of a factor that personal taste?

Cheers!

Kamoka Pearls tend to be good quality pearls. There is a lot of low quality stuff out there - as well as good quality of course.
Personally I find my customers love that they can look at Josh's website and see who produced the pearls and where they came from - whatever the size, shape or colour of the pearls they have selected - plus of course - there is the possibility of making a special request for pearls not in stock - waiting for the next harvest to see if what you want is there - wow

Baroque Tahitians are extremely varied and individual taste varies so much, that finding the color, shape and luster you want may be more important to you than knowing where they came from. On the other hand, Josh's pearls are beautiful!

Taste first, all other things being equal.

Jeremy has a large variety of non-Kamoka Tahitians in a variety of colors, overtones etc. In Kamoka's favor is that you not only know where and who they came from, you also know Josh raises sustainable, low environment impact pearls. If you value that, go with Josh, you will be directly supporting his green business.

Though I never bought directly from Josh, (he is wholesale and I am not a business) his pearls are very popular with members here and several of them like Pearlescence and Kojima Pearls both buy and use Josh's pearls. I can't remember who else , but others might mention some other names.
