I never knew that black pearls were naturally black and not colored black. It is later on that i figured out that Black Tahitian Pearls are pearls colored black naturally from black-lipped oyster and that they are extremely valuable because of its rarity.
I think black pearls look very elegant and classy than the white or the other colored pearls. What do you think? Anyone who would choose a white colored pearl over a black one!

My own most frequently worn color is the multicolored exotics-- they seem to go with practically everything I have. I wear my black pearls (dyed peacock ringed CFWP) with my black tops. White comes in third in winter, 2nd in warmer weather as my clothes get lighter colored.

It's nice to have a variety of colors to choose from!:D

Oh, yes, I almost forgot the lavender rice pearls I got recently-- these actually go very well with many of my tops and I'm wearing them a lot.

Hm... clearly, 'rarity' needs some qualifier here: these pearls are as rare as the production capacity of their farmers allows. And last time I've checked, the prices of black pearls were not the highest among cultured pearls. Nor are these pearls the most scarce. But that's beside the point: black pearls are irrepleaceable (the color enhanced ones do not count) ;)

You'll find an entire fan club for black pearls on this forum debating various sources, types.. quality. A few well-traveled sellers and pearl farmers keep the news flowing. You'll see...

That's an impossible question! Both, please :p

Well, Smartneil,

Not all black Tahitian pearls are created equal! There are many different qualities. Most of us want black pearls, white pearls, purple pearls, cream pearls, pink pearls, peach pearls, and so on!!! Many of the dyed black freshwaters are lovely also. I guess if you are a guy you might prefer the black? Have you seen some black Tahitians you really like? Mine are a wonderful greenish-black with many other color overtones!

Pattye
