Bizarre fib from a fairly consistent eBay pearl vendor

Imperial Jewels is prone to a bit of transparent hyperbole, but my one transaction with them was good and their feedback is fairly solid. As a general rule, I go by what I know, not what eBay sellers say.

Calling these multicolored freshwaters "South Seas" is just bizarre, though. If those really were SSP, the "retail" mentioned ($1000) would be a steal.

Most pearl customers would know the difference, but it's just strange. Does anyone think fibs are getting fishier as smaller vendors vie for a contracting pool of consumer spending? Not impugning straight-shooting smaller vendors, of course. :)

It is bizarre. I wonder if they cut and pasted without paying attention. Those look like FW to me - wrong colors, wrong size, wrong everything for SSP. If they are really representing them as SSP, I would call that a bit more than a fib!

Imperial Jewels goes beyond hyperbole with their descriptions. They are completely fraudulent.

They once threatened this forum with legal action because the "pearl police" nailed them for dishonest descriptions. They even set up a fake Gem Lab which they claim certifies all of their pearls. The gem lab does not exist, of course.

You really cannot find many outfits as shady as Imperial Jewels.

I did report them to ebay. And also emailed them about the fraudulent listing. There is no excuse for that.

If they aren't Imperial-Deltah, they are doing a grand imitation of Deltah's scrollwork logo.

At the very bottom of the ebay page listing is a section called OTHER OPTIONS.
The 2nd item is "Report this item". Perhaps if enough of us do this it will help us feel we are doing something, however small. There is also a place for a very brief comment about what is wrong with the listing, in addition to several "multiple choice". There is not a good way to know what ebay does with the complaint, but if one company gets quite a few, it will alert them, at least.

To the uninformed it certainly does look legit - good thing Pearl Guide is out there to set things straight!

Thank you, Loretta for the email letting know about this vender. I work ever day to maintain the highest ethical standards as do most members of this forum. The good name and reputation is really all one actually has in this business.

“Imperial Jewels” is particularly disturbing as it is attempting to perpetrate two acts of deception. First as to the product if offers as South Sea Pearls that are obviously Freshwater. Then to use Imperials good name to confuse its identity.

It has always been a struggle to protect the Imperial brand in fact I had to sue Mikimoto to stop the use of Imperial as a brand name for its finest pearls.

These people are certainly not concerned about factually representing their product.

Ebay has been notoriously lax is policing their site but I think Pattye is correct the more that report the deception the better chance we have to correct this problem.

Cor !
Lavender and pink South Sea pearls !!...

Reported from here, too.

P.S.
And I bet our reports won't make one jot of difference.....:(

I reported as well but I don't expect the listing to be ended. EBay has terminated a lot of employees recently and there are probably not enough left to deal with all the reports that must come in.

From the perspective of a meticulous businessperson, certainly.

I just can't get too stressed about it as a consumer because their photos are good and their ratings record of providing what they display is fairly strong, tall tales notwithstanding.

eBay is a caveat emptor marketplace and people don't go there to spend a large amount on valuables they haven't studied. It's much like picturing an old Game Boy and claiming you're selling a DS-- search returns to interested buyers are going to be poor and anyone with eyes can tell the difference. Fraud is a more comprehensive ruse IMO, but I applaud the efforts of those who feel this is a grave wrong. :)

Oh Boy! This is gonna be fun! :D Thanks, Jeremy. I know there are many from other vendors also. I report them when I find them.

Laurenb,

Most pearl customers would know the difference,
, unfortunately, it is not so, most are confused, as are many jewelers.

ANY market place is a caveat emptor marketplace.
