:cool::cool::cool: This one gets 4 cools. Add it to your bookmarks:

This little wizard counts the number of pearls/beads you will need- with or without knots- for whatever length piece you want.

I tried it for

1.5mm X 22 inches, no knots = 372 beads

18" X 12mm with knots = 33 pearls.

and so on.

Caitlin,

this little Wizzard is great! How do You find all these good things?

If you are out shopping and find the perfect strand but don't know how many strands to purchase, this is a good gauge:

7 x 3MM beads = 1 inch
4 x 6MM beads = 1 inch
5 X 5MM beads = 1 inch
6 x 4MM beads = 1 inch
3 x 7MM beads = 1 inch

See the pattern? It's not an exact science, but it keeps you from purchasing too many or too little beads for your design.

Hey, knotty! Good mnemonic to remember when shopping. A bit less work than mentally juggling "~25 mm/inch with 7mm pearls means..umm...divide by 3, carry the ..what was it...oh, heck, just gimme 3 strands!" Of course, I just keep all the extras in a "crazy jar" for funky bracelets - my tween niece and her friends seem to like them.

Caitlin, I do love the calculator, especially since it takes into account knots and fractional size increments - thanks for sharing!

The "Bead Number Wizard" has disappeared. :( I can't find it. Does anyone know what has happened to it? It was such a wonderful tool?

Gail

Hi everyone - someone posted this calculator before when I was asking about the length knots add to a strand - it is very useful, I have had it bookmarked ever since, and I use it often. I know that everything is in the posts, Caitlin, but would it be worthwhile to have a little"resources" list on the LH column for people who want to start knotting - with links to your excellent "how to attach a clasp", what tools to use, the knotting videoclip and the calculator? Truly, everything is already here, but if it could be under one heading it might make the way easier for the next lot of would-be knotters...

I've used the "Bead Number Wizard" many times and have it book-marked. Their website was pmegio.com but when I try to pull it up, a totally different website appears. What I meant in my previous post was that I can't find it on the internet. Does anyone know if it still exists?

Gail

Gail - I haven't done any beading for the last couple of weeks, and just checked my bookmarked site - I'm having the same problems as you - no longer directs to the bead wizard - now some dodgy looking website and if you do a search for the bead wizard, nothing relevant comes up. A mystery!

It's not working for me. I inputted all required fields and there is no answer. Tried different mm size and that didn't work either.

Whoops. When I saw it again I was so happy to see it, I didn't even try it. I wish we had a computer whiz who could program another one for us........

It's not working. I tried it, all it does is resets the fields.:(

Cheers

Happy Friday Everyone!

I'm working on a html page for P-G that will do the same bead calc. What should I assume for knots, 1mm or something less?

Wow, raj! How neat. 1mm sounds ok. Maybe someone else has an opinion. I am thinking the size of the thread is a factor and that would mean maybe 3 different size knots. Maybe 1/2mm for 5mm and under, 1mm for 6-9. 1.25 mm for 9m to 12-3mm. Also the type of thread is a factor. Silk is the standard and I think the size of silk knots would follow the above sizes.

Hope to get more input.
