beach Tahitian pendant

Okay, after not touching my beading stuff for a while I have been starting to play with it again in anticipation of getting my bag-o-goodies from PearlParadise. Anyway, I made a new pendant a few days ago from a Tahitian I bought on ebay which had an ugly non-nacreous ring at the top. I decided to go casual with it and instead of using a bead cap to hide the flaw, I chose to use a few puka shells and some tiny kahelelani (turban) shells. It really needs to be on a leather cord instead of the gold chain, but I had the chain handy and wanted to be able to wear it. I may redo it into something more formal later, but I thought this was kind of beach-y and summery (and anything that makes me think of summer is good at this time of year!) It even has a bit of a red, white and blue, 4th of July picnic-y sort of feel. So what do you guys think? Is it a fun tribute to the pearl's maritime origin or is it just plain goofy?

I think it's fun! We need to break out of the mold and be a bit untraditional--------nice proportion and choice of complimentary colors, bet it is even cuter in person!

I love it! It feels spontaneous, and is quite beautiful. The puka shells rest so nicely on the pearl.

I even like the gold chain with it, and think that the gold may end up working better than the leather. The tension of the pendant on the chain seems just right aesthetically.

Ingenious combination of natural and "establishment" elegance!
