Baroque necklace

Hello everyone,

I was offered this necklace. I thought the pearls are not round but so large I'm not sure if they are freshwater. The price is around 2,000 usd. Is it a fair price? What kind of pearls they are? I just have 3 pictures for now but may ask for more. The clasp is 18k white gold diamonds.

I don't feel confident commenting on the type. Just that $2000 is a fair bit of money so the first question to ask might be if you LOVE them. If not, move on - regardless of what they are.

If the clasp is big and 18ct with diamonds that will be a chunk of the price.

Thank you Karink and pearlescence. Maybe the clasp is 8mm. I'm not sure if it should cost so much just for the clasp. Would you maybe give me a wild guess of the kind of pearls? I'm not sure if I should buy it but I'm very curious.

The pearls look similar to a strand of large, metallic, baroque, freshwater pearls I bought from Kojima for around $1200 to $1500. I don't remember the exact price. But my clasp is a rhodium plated silver orbit clasp. If the clasp on your necklace is 18K gold with diamonds, then that is a large part of the price.

I'll say that the luster on my strand is off the charts. So you might want to ask for clearer photos of the pearls and the clasp.

These look like freshwater pearls to me. An 8mm clasp would be rather small for a necklace with pearls this size. What is the sellers return policy? Is this a necklace you would wear often and enjoy? Or was the seller indicating it was a terrific bargain?

Thank you Bweaves and pattye. I have to agree with you. I cannot think only of great deals and bargains but also if I love the item and that's not the case. I have another one to ask for your opinion but the pictures I gave are even worst. I want to know if the pearls are black freshawater ou tahitian is there an easy way to do so?

The clasp is selling for $1,500 to $1,800 dollars depending on the quality and carat weight of the diamonds.
It would be helpful to see any "pits" or markings on the nacre up close as well as the drill holes to make a better identification.

Here are the photos of the other necklace. Is it possible to have an idea? There are two necklaces one of stones and the pearls one. The clasp od the pearls is the one that appears with diamonds. I will only have them in hands after Christmas.

These pearls appear to be Tahitian and I would have the diamonds on the clasp tested for authenticity. Also, check for any "stamp" for the gold content. 14K 18K, etc. or have it tested too. The other rocks/stones might be sapphire or polished ruby...are they smooth? Again, you need to let a gemologist determine the stone and relative value. Colored stones can be tricky to name without testing. Amethyst also comes in that color...

Thank you. I really hope they are tahitians. The gold content is 18k and I can test diamons and gold myself, pearls that I don't have enough confidence to classify. I'm sure the gold is real because that's the only thing the seller assures. The other necklace is made of garnets and besides the yellow gold clasp doesn't have that much value or interest to me. It came as a bonus. When both are in my hands I'll hopefully post better pictures.

Garnet, of course! A lovely combination. I love how the deeper red brings out the aubergine of the Tahitian pearls. And 18K gold! Fantastic, that would also lend itself to genuine pearls. Most high-end claps have similarly matched pearls, although not always.

Hello everyone. Hope you've had great holidays and wish a great 2024 to all.
I've got the necklace we discussed previously. The pearls are much smaller than I thought, 7.4mm and I'm not sure if they are tahitian or maybe freshwater. I'm guessing freshwater because of the size, but my other necklace is also small and I consider the pearls to be tahitian. What do you think? I've put the tahitian, the akoya and the new necklace together for a better comparison. Hope anyone may give me an opinion. Thank you.

Thank you both for your answers. Pearl dreams if you say tahitians I say tahitians too. Haha. So it's a keeper. Motherofpearltrumpet I don't think they are really mixed colors just some have more red and others don't, here two pictures in indirect daylight.
My mother said she would wear the clasp in the front as a pendant, I said it looks nice but it is a clasp I think it should be in the back, what do you think?

I have a pearl necklace where I wear the clasp halfway up the side. Clasps can be part of the decoration and not just for holding the strand together
