Baroque Akoyas

I wouldn't purchase anything so easily imitated or misrepresented at any time especially if they are several thousand miles away. Treated FWCP can easily immitate natural color Japanese Grey Akoya. You should know they might Chinese Akoya and have the same authenticity as the lead toys and dog food poison. buy from someone you have recourse with.

CFWP never looks like the freeform baroque akoya. If the picture is accurate there is no question it is the same. It is not something that is even imitated yet. The pearls are certainly of Chinese origin which does not have any bearing on the pearls themselves.

Just in case, sometime in the future you should change your mind try to keep the hole size no larger than 1mm. 1.2mm. That way if you should like to mix with another strand at some time or wear in the conventional way a super large hole will not be an impedence.

The problem with this is the leather strap. A minimum of 1.5mm in needed for the piece to look masculine. A lot of people go with 2mm and larger, even. This is the standard in FP.
If worn by a man for any length of time the pearl would not work well in a strand anyway. The constant turning and moving on the neck with wear the pearl down and create more of a slight oval shape.
If the piece is created it should just stay as is. I have been wearing one for years and have never received anything but compliments. In Los Angeles they have been hot with celebs and people who do not care to wear ties for a couple years now.

I agree with Jeremy. Freeform baroque akoya do not look like CFPW. They are easy to discern from a good picture.

Thanks for the clarification, Jeremy. That's reassuring since I ordered them - I was worried when I saw the post about the possibility of being misled.

It's actually thanks to PP that I learned about the leather chokers. I had bought a couple strands and I mentioned to Kirsten that men need a pearl "something" to wear. She sent me a picture, and I've ended up with 4 of them (gotta have one of each, you know).

Hi All,

Here's a few photos comparing the baroque akoyas from The Pearl Outlet, baroque Sea of Cortez, and baroque blue-silver SS.

The Sea of Cortez strands are not as blue as some I have seen, however I chose them because I already had the SS. Doubt I have caught the overglow on the strands to do them justice at all.

OK, I just got off the plane. As promised, Terry's baroque Akoyas. The orient is amazing! Very cute. Huge thank you to Terry for picking them out personally.

Stunning pearls! My baroque Akoya just arrived from China. I have to take a picture or two and post them. They are not as lovely as these, but I do love the color and orient. I'm a bit jealous, though!

Congratulations on your pearls, John.

If you hang around here, you'll be in-the-know on what's hot from now on. (It could be injurious to your wallet!) I purchased the two-strand dyed black freshwater pearl necklace & earring monthly special on Pearl Paradise.com It looks heavenly and I can't wait to get it.;)

Be sure to show us some photos of your baroque akoyas when you get a chance. Indirect natural daylight looks best, imho:)

Cheers,
Blaire

Nice strand Raisondetre :)
Congrats on your new akoyas too John. Can't wait to see the photos!

Patty, I can't see any of those pics for some reason.

Yikes!

I know the photos aren't that great, but aren't too awful either----so I pm'ed admin this am. Thanks for the heads up--

Hi Again,

I have asked admin to take a look at the photos, to see why they don't show up. Sorry, hope all will be ok later today.

Pattye: Stunning! Whatever attributes your camera may have missed are more than compensated by the luster and surface texture you picked up. Fantastic work! As this is as close as I will ever get to Doug's pearls or the indonesians, I thank you for the experience.

Pattye's Sea of Cortez strand looks like the "Mocha" color. I've been eyeing earrings like that for a while now... Beautiful!

Pattye,
Thank you for posting those beautiful pics. I am hoping someday to be able to buy a strand of Doug's pearls. Each one of your strands is very unique. Your SS strand is really amazing! What are the sizes of those pearls? They look huge. I am a big fan of baroque pearls.

Pattye, those pictures were worth waiting for - lovely! The Sea of Cortez baroques are really beautiful. Something else to look for now...

I still cannot see Pattye's pictures in post 184 :(. Is it because I have a Mac ?

I tried to get a picture of the baroque Akoya's I just received from a vendor in China. Unfortunately, I have some work to do on my up-close picture taking. It is a bit blurry and the color isn't as blue as "real life." I'll try again on the weekend with natural light (if it stops raining here in Boise). The color on them is a lovely light blue with a lot of iridescence that I have absolutely missed on the photo. The strange thing are the tails and dangly things on some of them - they are "rough" looking baroques ;-)
