Mike Rivers and I just came back from Indonesia where we were working with some of the pearl producers there. I thought you would like to see one of the farms in Bali.

Wow Peter, those are amazing photographs. You're a very talented photographer. When I take business trips it's usually to places like Milwaukee, Detroit, Greensboro and Cleveland-- I am in the wrong line of business. :) Oh--and those golden SS look fantastic too!

Peter and Mike, the pictures are great, thank you for sharing.
Could you pls. put captions on the ones that aren't self-explanatory?

I don't think I can at this point Nora. What I can tell you is you are seeing our villa in Seminyak in south Bali. Then we drove 3 1/2 hours to north Bali. Along the way we saw waterfalls, monkeys, and rice terraces. The other animals you see in the pics are at a roadside stop to take pictures. You pay a couple of guys to take pictures with whatever critters you want to. Then we arrived at the north side of the Island where you see the pearl farming. They are bringing in panels for cleaning and to xray the shells, You see the hatchery where you see the bottles of algae used to feed the spat. The technician is putting a bio-coated nucleus (ucleus coated in antibiotics) into a shell and pulling out a pearl from that shell. Last was the MOP shell piled up for export to be used as watch faces, buttons and inlay. We have a lot of pictures of carvings and stonework. We also stopped at a museum where there were a lot of paintings and carvings as well. Sorry, Should have done a better job of explaining what was happening.

Thanks Mike, Those photos are wonderful and tell quite a story!

Thanks Mike. I wasn't sure about the x-ray photos.

I need to get travel tips from you, when I make it back to Bali, Mike :)

Good morning All

Thanks for the pic's and video. I understand their reason for "Starving" their shell by putting the 1mm mesh over the pannels but I do not approve. Can you let us know how long they "Starve" their shell for.
The scenery is fantastic but if people watch and listien to the video I feel this is a subject that animal liberationist's will seize upon. I feel it's a bad practice and a bad look for the South Sea Pearl Industry.
Some of you may feel I'm being picky, please understand this industry is Bronwyn and My livelyhood.
