Another Typhoon Slams China

Now that is sad info. BTW, who is "the pearl professor?????? No info in the profile. Obviously very extraordinary person----------

No, My goal is "pearl profiteer" I will leave the pearl expertise to you. Or "The Professor". :D Whoever that might be. My first two initials are M.D. (Mom had hopes) Thats as close as I get to being a professor.

I do know farmers in the region however. And this is another reminder of the precarious nature of our business. These events can effect everything from nuclei to pearl prices. And it can knock the wind out of small operators. Mother nature remains the ultimate determinant.

I just received this post from China in response to an email I sent earlier.

I am feeling so bad. New Typhoon batters the pearls and fish farm. Tropical storm brought terrible heavy rain and flood. It rained for more than 15 hours in Xuwen. We could not get to the farm till two night ago as the water occupied the road to the farm. The fishes have started to die since Thursday afternoon and some pearls oysters died in the evening. Soon we will know if the oysters keep on dying. Some farmers have to harvest their pearls today.

If you have an opportunity, please pass on our sympathy to your contact out there. It must be so hard to see it happening

Hmm, things don't seem to be going that smoothly for Akoya pearling in China. Is your farm affected as well, Jeremy?

Terrible news. . . :-( Hope the next news is good news.
