Abalone "tooth" made into chain

Hi all,

It's been a while, but I just wanted to share a quick picture with you all. I had two of my "tooth" shaped abalone pearls made into silver chains, one each for my sons and they loved them so I just wanted to share it with you. We like it as it has a nice rough, natural feel about it and it's a nice link to their homeland. It's always hard making something like this for guys, but they really love them.

Both are on silver, but I only have a photo of one at this stage - not a very good photo but hopefully you can get the idea. It's always hard to get the colours to show up and as I found out, even harder to get the silver to show as silver (looks a little gold from the lighting)

I was just wondering what other creative suggestions people might have for designs and creations using pearls of this shape??

A larger version of my photo can be seen from the link at the top of my web page at www.abalonepearls.co.nz

Take care

Hi there - thanks for your positive feedback.

I'm just looking at the photos on a different computer and they unfortunately look a little washed out due to my photography technique :)

But I hope you like the simplicity of the design.

Best regards

I like how the Silver is going to ensure that the tooth doesn't start to dry out and crumble. I love abalone, and that is my biggest gripe about those pearls. You've created a sleek, protective design that hits the nail on the head in the masculinity dept. (however, I like it so much that I would certainly wear it myself lol). Nice job!

Great design - as Ashley says, the silver is not only protective but it also gives the piece a great look.

Hi Mister Hill. I just wanted to add another male voice to the "Wow that's great!" contingent. My son has a really nice black Tahitian pendant which he's really in love with. Myself, I haven't adjusted to the 'men wearing necklaces' idea, ..... But if I was given a tooth/horn-shaped paua pearl set like the ones you did for your sons I think my reservations would soon crumble!

Hi
I am trying to get the men of around here educated into single pearls on leather but it is an uphill job. Some of the men (out shopping with wives) actually back away in horror when I suggest the notion of ..not just jewellery..but...gasp...pearls!
Mind you, last week a youngish bloke turned up wearing a smashing strand of 5-6mm black pearls and they looked great.
so hope yet!

awesome, I love it - what is the actual length of the pearl?

Hi All,

Thanks for such positive feedback!! It's good to hear some of the men are getting into it aswell :)

This "tooth" is 30.49mm lond and about 18.44mm wide at it's thickest part weighing 2.714 grams i believe.
