A visit to Takahashi Pearl Company

I posted the same pics in The Show Us thread, but I am duplicating it here to have its own place. I was able to visit the Takahashi Pearl office in Kobe, meet the wonderful people behind the pearls, and to see their facility and experience the pearl processing. What a wonderful and very special treat!

Entry to the office

Meeting Mr. Seki and Yy, who are the workforce behind the Instagram pages.

The staff has many responsibilities and are specialists at what they do. This particular morning was a sorting day. Here, they are sorting pearls that have not been processed yet.

This person is using a sifter to sort sizes-

Later she was sorting pearls for multi-colored strands

This person was sorting natural pearls for strands

And this person was sorting baby Akoya pearls

Ayako also happens to be Mr. Seki’s wife!

The processing room…
Every company has their own secret formula for bleaching and pinking. Here the pearls are being bleached. During the bleaching process, the pearls are rinsed, sorted, and bleached several times.

The pinking solutions, but no pearls were being pinked on this day.

And the polishing machine-

And bags of pearls in their natural state waiting to be sorted and processed-

Hahaha, me, too. I don't feel so bad about my necklaces being slightly jumbled when I see bags of pearls like that.

Have a fabulous whirlwind through Japan! I so enjoyed meeting Mr. Seki and Yy and seeing all the fabulous pearls. I’m so looking forward to your Live Event! I’ll be able to catch Day 1, but unfortunately will need to catch Day 2 after the fact.
