A gift from a friend

A friend of mine gave me this 50 inches pearls necklace plus another 16 inches that I double to make a bracelet. Photos of the necklace are below (I apologize for the quality - taken by phone). The measurements are 13mm by 17mm (oval). I can double and triple the necklace around my neck and is extremely heavy to wear, but I love it because my best friend gave it to me



Are these salt or fresh water pearls. I could see where some of the nacre were taken off to remove imperfections (not sure why).

I would really like to get an experts opinion. Thank you in advance.

The pearls are freshwater and from China. I don't see where any nacre is removed. I do see the rings and divots, but those are naturally occurring.

Such a lovely gift ! They would be quite heavy as they are Freshwater pearls and quite large but it's a great look and every time you wear them you think of your wonderful friendship !
