A Beader Special

Yes, Caitlin. The strands are drilled. I would not be that mean.;) There are about 1000 strands all together that are bundled into different groups of various sizes (no really small sizes).

I don't have any photos yet. I just checked with Natalie and she is going to come in on Sunday to shoot them. Maybe we can get them up early next week. We are closing up shop for now. Tonight is the company holiday party!

There's one item I'd be interested in, if anyone knows about it...last year, I bought a necklace of lovely multicolor Tahitian circle pearls when I was on Rangiroa, very nice quality. I was sure it was knotted on black silk until I looked closely and discovered very tiny black spacer beads between the pearls. They didn't look like any sead beads I've ever seen, more of a very tiny disk shape, but not totally regular - they really gave the look of a knotted strand. They're not delicas or seed beads. My guess would be that they are made of shell or some sort of plastic. I guess there's even a possibility they are coconut shell. I can try to take a super close-up with my macro lens when I get home. Anybody ever encountered this before?

Those are called "bead bumpers" and they are available from ... from ... give me a sec ... it will come to me ... from ... Beadalon! Yeah!

I might have to learn to use that Dremel after all.

This sounds great. Thank you for thinking of us. I am already thinking of getting some hanks to put on wires for those summer beach days, when there is worry about silk in or near water. :) Similar to Pearl_dreams' experiment.

I get a little faint when I start imagining the sort of jewelry you'd see at a PP holiday party. :D

Will we all be on the private list? I know there are lists that pre-date some of us. I must have had a psychic flash since I've been asking about drllls and yes, that youtube video makes me think that guy is either a surgeon or on some heavy-duty drugs.

I figured that would be the case for most with the drops. But I also figured it was Christmas maybe people could figure out things to do with them. A 200-gram bag is quite a lot of loose pearls and since they cost next to nothing, I figured people could get creative. Just don't ask me to drill them;)

Jeremy,
I would love to get hold of pearls for beading but WITHOUT DRILLHOLES they are worthless to me  as I am not going to be creative with mirrors or other things, I just want TO STRING.... SO THE HOLES ARE AN ABSOLUTELY MUST!:D

Inge, it sounds like there will be plenty of drilled strands, there will just be some undrilled bags as well. I shied away from the idea at first, but since Jeremy has pointed out that they will be quite inexpensive it might be fun to get creative and play with them since there will be little to lose by doing do. At the very least the pearly candle idea would be easy enough (someone posted one a while back, didn't they?) and I stand by my thought that it would be sweet to have a few loose undrilled pearls in a small crystal bowl on my desk to fondle and play with...You could play around with wire cage mounts, too. It might be fun :)

This is such an amazing offer. And, I do have a dremel tool! In fact I have two dremel tools. But one is for engraving. Since I am a woodworker I also have a variety of clamps and vices, some quite small. I don't have an actual pearl drilling station but am able to build a small/tiny jig for small/tiny objects that need drilling. I would be thrilled to be able to acquire both drilled strands and loose pearls. So far this year I have drilled my first pearl using the dremel, not free-hand, yuk, and am still timid about it. That first one came out okay. I was ecstatic!

Everybody has come up with such great ideas; and solutions.

Jeremy:
thanks for taking the time to do this for us and for starting this thread and all at Christmas. The pearls plus the information is all a great 'present'. (The anticipation is killing me.)
Merry Christmas back at everybody!!

Jeremy:
Maybe I spoke too soon. Is this list going to be different than the usual Pearl Guide list?
If so I'm sorry I spoke out of turn.

No. It is just going to be PG people. What I may do is put a link up on the "other stuff" page on this site so only PGers can see it. It is really only for our beaders here. I don't want beaders that are not part of PG to see it.

Here are a couple of shots of one white bundle. There are 30 strands all together ranging from 6.5-7.5 mm to 10.5 mm.

Mind you, I am not Natalie. She will shoot them a lot better tomorrow!

Btw, I don't want these showing up on eBay in Sweden as South Sea pearls from Thailand (Nada97).

We are not going to be polishing them before sending them out, so they have some pearl dust on them but they are smooth.
