This round South Sea and Tahitian 10-11 mm cultured pearl strand just finished today.

Patty, personally I like to make strands like this on a very flexible Japanese stainless steel wire with silicone cushion between the pearls
and a harpoon lock so that the strand looks endless and can be worn as you like. This also the cheaper solution @ US $ 45 extra.

Thank you for sharing your design and construction idea. Yes, that would work fine! I've seen those tiny silicone cushions, and they look almost like knots. The designers wire you speak of is something I use at times, too; as you say, a quality product, strong and very flexible.
