    Pearls on Etsy

Ooh, I really like the PMC flower power pendant-- would look great with a pearl in the center. I've had a sale and two custom bracelet requests that turned into sales on etsy in the last couple of months. Now I'm trying to decide if I should continue listing where my feedback is, or if I...

    Fijian Pearls

Everlasting gobsmackers... You can suck 'em and suck 'em and suck 'em, and they'll never get less beautiful. A few big unprocessed pearls would seem like good teething ring components in theory... slightly gritty, appearance/texture that keeps the attention, natural source. Doubt anyone would...

    Chinese student coming to US

Total tangent, but since you mentioned Nashville, I can't help but mention a couple of tourist-friendly options that diverge from the notoriously tacky Nashvegas aesthetic. :D When I was at Vandy, the northern portion of the Nachez Trace closest to Nashville, particularly the parkway arch...

    Stauer - TNSTAAFL?

I think their main motivation is actually dodging eBay fees applied to sales totals, but not final totals. Shipping has showed up in search results for a couple of years now and is listed right below the auction/BIN price, so it's much harder to overlook than before, but sellers still do this...

    Fijian Pearls

My novice guess is that it might push a bit of water out of the outer layers of the pearl, but I'm sure you'll get an expert answer about the purpose and the official definition of enhancement by the by. I wouldn't consider waxing natural wood or oiling a carving to be enhancing the...

    Hong Kong anyone?

It's definitely close... Shanghai Population (2008) - Municipality 18,884,600 but that's census data-- at any given time, millions must be there doing business. Australia Population - 2009 estimate 21,700,000 - 2006 census 19,855,288 (via Wikipedia)

    Hong Kong anyone?

Beautiful photos. I love urban areas and definitely hope to travel through China and Japan in the future. Your description of Shenzhen's size made me curious about the population density, since I hail from the land of big sprawly cities (by occidental standards, at least :)) Shenzhen has...

    Inside an akoya

Don't know if waimeamomi would be comfortable telling us roughly how much those cost, but I've been experimenting with similar akoya that run less than $10 a strand, even with EMS. I think there's a really useful place for pearls like these in the market, under the "bought a shirt at Target"...

How to Make a Pearl Necklace.

I have a tricord knotter destined for eBay because my results were so poor. The v-shaped part of the knotter kept cutting and fraying the silk! With two strands of silk or powerpro it's been pretty easy for me to do it by hand. Have you had better luck with the pointy implement, Dkan?

Have you ever peeled a pearl -We Have and look what we got

Hmm... What about powdery sand, maybe mixed with nut shells? Think that would be too rough?

    Hong Kong anyone?

From the perspective of a buyer/aspiring collector, not a retailer, I think those strands look different enough and are sufficiently distinct in origin that I would not consider one a replacement for the other. Thank you both for taking a comment from a much lower strata of the pearl world so...

Wow, bizarre. And that photo on the upper right hand side of the display area is hilariously blown out.

    My pistachio pearl actually glows!

Thanks. :D I've known far too many yellow akoyas who had to be dyed before they were taken seriously in the workplace. :p

Please help a novice with pearl-buying decision!

Would you post photos of those? I'm seeing more and more of the blue/grey baroques around and I'm wondering if they're better, worse, or perhaps "from" my supplier. This is one of the strands I made with said pearls. I'm not crazy-- those are not priced to sell. I need to leave them up for...
