    Older Pearls Recently Started Peeling

hello kurama, welcome to PG! could you post photos of the necklace? i'm no expert, just curious as to how a Miki necklace could peel just like that. but the experts might appreciate photos before commenting. seriously though, there are different factors why pearls get damaged even if they...

Show Us Your Pearls In Action!!!

I don't know how cheapo that is, but it looks gorge, PD! I bought a pair of 12mm white ssps a couple of months back, and due to a very toxic yearend, I just got my first white ssp studs yesterday -- yes, I am THAT late. They started out as this: Had them set as studs with 18k rose...

    Strand Comparison

Is the top the hanadama and the lower one the Miki AA? It would be interesting to compare the hanadama with a Miki AAA though. Or a tenyou with the AAA. ;)

    How do I revive these?

maybe suggest to make them into something else? like a keychain or a bag decor? That way she still gets to keep the sentimentality and not wear it. Lastly, uhm, that strand screams "it's 2018, time to move on!". :p

    Is my pearl scratched ?

you're better off buying a real pearl from a reputable online vendor. That, or just buy yourself a real fresh oyster, shuck it and enjoy with a dash of lemon and salt. ;) this pearl-in-oyster scam just has to stop!

Dyed or Naturally Colored South Sea & Tahitian Pearls?

Most people in the Philippines refer to gssps as champagne pearls. I had to bring my mother to a Jewelmer shop to correct that; pearl education can be really expensive. :) :p

    Correct pearl wearing etiquette

I can only base this off what I observe from the magpies around me. Because well, there are no hard and fast rules in pearls, which makes them all the more fun! The more traditional ones will have everything matchy-matchy, e.g. 9mm earrings, bracelet, necklace, ring. Same size, same shade...

Cultured from Japan late 60s (1 of 2)

Agree with PD, they seems to be cultured akoya with a sterling silver clasp. The pouch looks like a generic jewelry pouch common in HK and Asia in general. Would you have a clearer photo to show the luster? It looks a bit dull and the reflection is fuzzy.

    Southsea Pearl vs Edison Pearls

Well, Christmas is just around the corner. Mix a few "Lop Noors", gssps and silver blue akoyas... and we can all start singing carols! :p

    Strands with Adjustable Lengths?

The vendor said that the beads in between the pearls are 18k rose gold, while the tassel is a customized chain, also using 18k rose gold which they meshed to form the design. I hope I made sense, hahaha!

    Tenjo Grade?

Thanks for the advice ladies, much appreciated! Will definitely consider your perspectives. One last thing to note: I just found it odd that hanadama strands come with matching earrings or the same size (also included in the appraisal cert), yet tenyo strands did not come in sets. I also did...

    Tenjo Grade?

In my case, it was more "What? There's something better?!? I'm not prepared for this, but wait, let me think about it! Don't confuse me!" :p During the fair, the 9.0-9.5 hanadama strands with matching earrings were priced almost similarly as a 8.5-9.0mm tenyo, but there were no tenyo strands...

    Double strand pearl necklace

i'd go with PD, keep them. the joy it brings you is more valuable than its market value.

    Southsea Pearl vs Edison Pearls

that ring is beautiful, congratulations on your first SSP ring! such a classic setting! I also love rose gold on pearls, brings out the pink overtones. well, I am partial to rose gold in general. :) my current pearl pecking order: south sea > akoya > tahitians > freshwater.

    Everyday Pearl Ring- tough

I'd go with cmd's suggestion of getting pearl earrings instead of a ring. That way, you get to wear them off duty or while in lectures, check your reflection in the mirror or some glass window, and smile back! I work with my hands all the time, so no bracelets and rings for me save for my...

    Tenjo Grade?

Oh wow, talk about collaborative effort! Thanks everyone! Thanks IcyJade for the reference as well, those photos look a lot better that those I took! (Note to self, take close up shots!). I hope we can hear more about that color analysis from Red's DH, that would be interesting. ... and all...
