    Dawn's Pearls

Hi Dawn, more gorgeous items, I'm still buying the lotto tickets, I'll only need a modest win as I see you have a 10% off sale on eBay at the moment! I think you missed a natural necklace, love the clasp, and at the reduced price on eBay this has to be a fantastic bargain...

Soon an auction sale of Pipi pearls in Paris

Hi, does the FB page give the actual date of auction? The Druot auction catalogues are on-line out to about three weeks ahead: www.drouot.com/?bpage=Sales&date=upcoming.days&lang=en‎ I'll be interested to see the auction details when they become available.

    Dawn's Pearls

Hi Dawn, more fab jewels, wow what a collection you have. Interested to know if the pink pearl is drilled and has a post at the base as well as the claw setting. One of the elderly jewelers who I showed my Pipi Pearl ring told me the long claws with a post as well was a setting technique...

What do you think - Large Pendant with Pearls

It maybe needs something with sparkle in the necklace to support that fabulous sparkly pendant. I once saw a Victorian opal bead necklace, where each opal bead was separated by a crystal spacer, just like this: http://www.langantiques.com/products/item/90-3-4564 The crystal spacers are fairly...

Hi Dawn, can I ask what the pendant is made of - stones and metal?

Golden, Bronze, Pink Plus Pearl Ring - Opinions Wanted

Most interesting that it is white gold. That effectively dates the construction of the ring to the 1920's at earliest, see: https://www.rubylane.com/blog/White-Gold-is-Not-Antique Of course jewelry get re-modelled all the time, as the younger generation re-style the jewels they inherit to be...

The 7 strand natural pearls that sold for over 9 millions $ in Geneva yesterday

Holy Nacreous Secretions Batman - what a necklace! Wonder which royal family found that in the bottom of their jewelry depository and said, "Oh that old thing, so early 20th century, let's sell it and buy one of those ten million quid iPhones"...

Golden, Bronze, Pink Plus Pearl Ring - Opinions Wanted

Wow Dawn, you have accumulated some magnificent antique jewelry, all the more special because they feature such interesting pearls. I'm out of my depth to know what sort of pearl it is. However I know a bit about dating antique jewelry by the construction and materials. Did you work out...

South Sea Black Natural pearl? Opinions please.

Wow, I continue to be blown away by the depth of knowledge available through this forum. Thank you GemGeek for bringing the suggestion of Pteria penguin into the mix. After looking at couple of pics on the Web that would seem to be a real possibility for Dawn's pearl.

South Sea Black Natural pearl? Opinions please.

Hi all , this is a fascinating piece. My opinion on the age of this ring is purely based on its design, and the point diamonds. I must say the curved and fluid shape of the band and mount has a "modern" (Art Nouveau - Edwardian) feel, while the point diamonds were last prevalent in the Regency...

South Sea Black Natural pearl? Opinions please.

Hi Dawn, I'm thinking that is a really, really old ring due to the point cut diamonds. They were out of regular use by the beginning of the Victorian period, although of course old ones continued to be recycled. It would be fascinating to know how a natural black south sea pearl reached...

    Fun with color palettes!

So can I ask a question of Dave about this Naturals colour palette. First of all let me say I am not great with colors, my wife and daughter tell me this all the time. However it seems to me that there is a distinct blue tinge in the palette and visible in the pic of these naturals. I...

    Fun with color palettes!

Hi Sophie, unfortunately it's probably not so useful for eBay treasure hunting. Problem is most people's photos on eBay are total rubbish, taken in unsuitable lighting against weird backgrounds, and so they'd be unusable.

So I've had a play with the pics above, my Photoshop 7 only sorts the colors by Luminescence First the Naturals, then the Mikimotos

    Fun with color palettes!

Hi Lisa, yes I'll clump together the naturals, and also the different mikis, to make the original composites easier. However they're in the secure facility, so I'll have to go and get them first.

South Sea Black Natural pearl? Opinions please.

Hi Dawn, that is a gorgeous pearl, and I guessing from the setting that the ring is very old, so it has to be a natural. Those diamonds look to be very old fashioned cuts, are they diamond chips, or point cut, or rose cut? By the way I see you have listed two extraordinary natural necklaces on...

    Fun with color palettes!

Hi Dave, very interesting outcome on the vintage Mikis. I wonder if you'd care to run your magic over the necklaces and enhancers in my "Show us your Mikimotos" thread here: https://www.pearl-guide.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8158 The source pics are on the following links...
