Why Are Freshwater Mussels In Decline?

That is sad. I hope there is more funding (urgently needed) to find out why and corrective actions being taken correspondingly. Thanks for bringing the news to us. I am interested to learn more. Pernula

The Quest of the Red Pearl

I am sorry for this stupid question:confused: , so do natural untreated red pearls exist ? Thanks to this forum, I have seen pictures of blue, brown, gold, green/peacock green, rich purple, silver/aqua, lavender, pink/peach, white, gray, black pearls:) . Someday I hope to see (and may be own...

Another plea to explain water and orient

Beautiful pearls! Blaire: so we can only get this quality of white SS at Paspaley's own stores, is that right? Thanks, pernula

Buying a strand of pearls in China - a report

I like the top one too. Besides color, the bottom one also does not seem to have good matching. 125 yuan is very good value though, isn't it? Pernula

Golden SS strand whole sale value?

Thanks Jeremy and Knotty Panda :) . Raisondetre: It is not light yellow, it is more like medium orange/gold with rose overtone sort of thing. But then it is not like peach color CFWP either, even though peach conjures the image of orange mixed with pink. They claimed it is GSS with no color...

Golden SS strand whole sale value?

Hi, I would like some help on the whole sale value of GSS. I went to the gem/mineral/fossil show in Denver today (it was so much fun, worth taking a day off for it!:) ). There was a graduated golden SS strand that surprisingly fit my skin tone well. It is kind of medium to slightly dark...

    Luster treatment?

Jeremy, If Pearl Paradise was to carry an untreated line, i.e., not just in private sale, I am sure some customers, me included, would be willing and happy to pay a premium for it. This is based on a desire to have pearls as they are and also from my own little experience. For example, I...

    GIA Alumni Pearl Tour

Hi Blaire, The Eyris Pearl pendant really has a beautiful luster and gleam, even though the picture must have been taken several feet away. It looks very good on you! I am adding Eyris Pearl to my own little wish list...:) pernula

    White Freshwater Baroque

Wow! Gorgeous! Considering each of the freshwater baroque is one in thousand (? or more?), and this strand had a second level of selection, it is probably one in a million! Enjoy the treasure!:) Pernula

    Natural color question

You mean gold, bronze sort of ovetone? I think that can be natural, i.e., not treated. Some of the untreated freshwater baroque from Pearl Paradise has that overtone in certain lighting. Very pretty. May be others who are experts in this forum can give better assessments, especially if you...

    Small Tahitians in style?

Hi Pattye, Thanks for your reply:). It makes a lot of sense that some jewelers would prefer to invest and risk less. It seems to me the "memo" mode of business is pretty low risk, so the mark-up for memo items should be less than normal store display items. Do you know whether that...

    Small Tahitians in style?

Those colors are gorgeous. I probably will be having dreams about them tonight:D . One question I have is whether the large quantities of dyed CFWP might take away some of the business of smaller-size Tahitian pearls? Recently I went to a jewelry store and the only Tahitian pearls they had...

    Small Tahitians in style?

Two row Tahitian necklace (nested) in the size you mentioned (7-8 mm), or may be 7-9 m, would be gorgeous, IMHO. The Tahitians in the middle of your tray with the reddish purple overtone/orient would look super-duper with lavender color Freshadama... Regards, pernula

    Nesting vs. Twisting?

Twisting means a mini-torsade ? That can be nice for smaller pearls, won't they? I especially like autumn colors in torsade. pernula

    Small Tahitians in style?

Josh: love your pearls! They would make beautiful earrings or part of a necklace. The last couple of years jewelry in Europe and U.S. tend to be large. Someone remarked that pendants are getting as large as breast plate:rolleyes: . It is probably time for a change in style;) . Pattye...

    Small Tahitians in style?

I would go for the small size, may be 8 to 10 mm graduated. I wear petite sizes, and even though I feel comfortable wearing the 8 to 11 mm baroque freshwater from Pearl Paradise, I don't think I can pull off round pearls that are > 10 mm :). Regards, pernula
