GIE Perles de Tahiti is Done

The most probable penalty would be their dismissal; but that's not going to happen. The situation is bad with local economy at its lowest, the country's budget for 2009 has not been voted yet and there are good chances that 2009 will see a not-so-new president (that would be its 10th change...

GIE Perles de Tahiti is Done

ok here's a good one. Most of you remember that a law was voted by the local Assembly last August in Tahiti. This law suspended the DSPE - the tax on exported pearls - from the 1st of October until the 31st of December 2008. One of the representants of the assembly who voted in favor of this...

    Tom Stern's natural pearls

Did you get an invitation? Khadra Hussein from the DMCC told me that public or media viewing is not permitted due to security reasons, but this might change; more next week. I haven't booked my flight yet and I'd love to attend the wpf and the sale.

    Pearls for Soldiers in Iraq

PIC REMOVED edit: re-attached the picture. For a split second, when reading Nerida's message I thought the picture was being censored by the great Australian firewall :D

    Tom Stern's natural pearls

I'm not too suprised about the fact that several semi-round pearls can be "extracted" from one single and large natural baroque pearl. I am however more surprised that pearls can continue to grow outside of the shell :confused: Is this a poetic way to describe the wear of the original...

    Pearls for Soldiers in Iraq

Can anyone find an online seller that stocks 5.5-6mm "semi-round" akoyas? The closest I could find is a 6.5-7mm, 16", AA+ (that's round) at $250. What you got is not a bargain but as Wendy said, the certificate seems to be honest (that's if the pearls are akoya and not freshwater).

    Betel Nut Juice

We should have started the discussion with this but I chimed in too late. Sueki's last post may however make me revise my judgment unless Josh has a good explanation.

GIE Perles de Tahiti is Done

If that was the case in French Polynesia, they wouldn't even be discussing it and starting petitions. I wonder where the newly created GIE PPNPP which claims 400 farmers as members is hiding, we haven't heard from them recently...

GIE Perles de Tahiti is Done

GIE PdT is not quite dead yet. They're claiming their share of the tax now that it is no longer suspended, but I'm sure the money's long gone... If the GIE PdT does get the money, they will no longer be bankrupt, but very much alive again. Just for info, Gaston Flosse, former president of FP...
