Kanaloa is one lucky cephalopod to be living with you and being able to venture out, 86Corvettegirl! We are still under pretty strict lockdown here in Oakland, California...no ramen outings for us, sigh.

I have used square knots in the distant past to string pearls with double thread. More recently have used overhand knot technique instead.

That is a pretty clip! I often use regular pins/brooches to achieve that effect, where it will show in the front. If you want it in the back of your neck and don’t want to get jabbed, you might do a search on Amazon or Etsy for necklace or pearl shorteners. There are a number of options...

She doesn't look very experienced/competent in opening the mussel. My guess would be that they chose someone with nice hands and nails because they were going to film it. Other than that artifice, it looks real to me...glad she didn't lose a finger in the process!!!
